Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a polyphenol of the stilbene group that plants produce as a natural protective compound against environmental influences such as UV radiation and fungal infestation. It occurs mainly in the skins of red grapes, in peanuts and in Japanese knotweed (Reynoutria japonica). Resveratrol became known in the 1990s through the so‑called "French paradox", which discussed a possible link between moderate red wine consumption and lifestyle in France. For dietary supplements, resveratrol is usually obtained from Japanese knotweed or from grape skin extract, as these sources deliver significantly higher concentrations than wine.
