Kelp
Kelp is a collective term for large brown seaweeds that occur in the cool coastal waters of the oceans and can form extensive underwater forests. Kelp is characterised by a particularly high natural iodine content and also contains other minerals and trace elements. In Asian cuisine, brown seaweeds have long been used as food – in Japan, for example, as kombu. Because of the high iodine content, a precise dosage is recommended when taking kelp supplements.
