Propolis
Propolis is a resin-like substance that honeybees collect from the buds and bark of various trees and mix with their own secretions. In the beehive, propolis serves as a natural sealant to close gaps and protect the colony. The name comes from Greek and means 'before the city' – a reference to its function as a protective barrier at the entrance of the beehive. Propolis contains a complex mixture of resins, waxes, essential oils, pollen and flavonoids. As a dietary supplement, propolis is offered in capsules, drops and tinctures.
