Propolis — also known as "bee glue" — is produced by bees from the resins of buds and twigs of trees and herbs. They use the germ-free propolis to protect their beehive from intruders, from infections caused by viruses and bacteria, and from fungal infestation. Propolis also serves the bees as a repair material for the beehive.
For the propolis extract from Unimedica, natural bee propolis is made usable by water extraction. This has the advantage that the product is alcohol-free as a food supplement. Furthermore, the innovative process largely preserves the many valuable constituents of propolis. Propolis contains, among other things, resin, essential oils, pollen, bee enzymes, vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, flavonoids and terpenes.
