Pomegranate

The pomegranate (Punica granatum) is one of the oldest cultivated fruits in the world and originates from West Asia. Its bright red seeds contain abundant secondary plant compounds, particularly polyphenols such as punicalagin and ellagic acid. In many cultures the pomegranate has held symbolic significance since ancient times and is an integral part of religious and cultural traditions.
