S-Acetyl Glutathione - stable form of glutathione - 250 mg per daily dose (1 capsule) - high-strength - 60 capsules - from Unimedica
Glutathione is one of the most important antioxidants. The tripeptide consists of the amino acids glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine. S-acetyl glutathione is a special form of glutathione that is more stable because the glutathione molecule is bound to an acetyl group. In this form glutathione can be transported more easily across the cell membrane, improving bioavailability. Glutathione is found in all cells of the human body, which is why it is so important.

What is special about S-Acetyl-Glutathione?
S-Acetyl-Glutathione is the first stable form of glutathione, meaning it resists stomach acid and reaches the cells.
Why is this important?
Normally, glutathione is produced by the body as a sulphur-containing tripeptide from the amino acids glutamic acid, glycine and cysteine. To replenish glutathione directly and quickly without taxing the body's own production, it can be taken through the diet or as a supplement. However, much of it is lost to stomach acid and enzymes on the way through the digestive tract.
What does the body need glutathione for?
Metabolic processes leave their 'waste' in the cells, and chemicals from air, water and food also enter the body. This keeps the body's waste-disposal unit, the liver, very busy. It needs helpers produced by the body itself, such as glutathione. This is present in all cells but is particularly concentrated in the liver.
From the mid-forties onwards, the body produces progressively less glutathione. Stress, environmental pollutants, illnesses, inflammation or an unbalanced diet can also lead to increased glutathione use in the cells. Glutathione is involved in cellular metabolism and oxidises quickly.
