Set: Astaxanthin - AstaPure® - 4 mg - 2 x 60 soft gel capsules - by Unimedica
The astaxanthin in Unimedica's Astaxanthin capsules is derived from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, which, among other things, serves as food for wild salmon. The freshwater alga defends itself against environmental stress by releasing astaxanthin and turning the surrounding water blood-red. Astaxanthin softgel capsules: The red power of nature
Astaxanthin softgel capsules from Unimedica contain the branded ingredient AstaPure® with natural astaxanthin, enclosed in a soft gelatin layer. The astaxanthin is derived from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis. This single-celled freshwater alga produces the red pigment astaxanthin under specific environmental conditions such as light, cold or nutrient deficiency, causing it to turn reddish.
The softgel capsules are soft, small and therefore easy to swallow.
The source of the red power – sustainable cultivation of the blood alga
The algae used for production are cultivated in closed systems. This serves to control and ensure purity and quality. The whole alga is used for the capsules. In the specially developed formulation of the branded ingredient AstaPure®, astaxanthin is present in a bioavailable form.
Carotenoids at a glance
Astaxanthin belongs to the group of carotenoids – yellow to reddish plant pigments that also occur in many fruits and vegetables. Other well-known carotenoids include, for example, beta-carotene and lutein.
Occurrence in foods
Carotenoids are found in, for example, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, peppers, mango, apricots, lamb's lettuce and green leafy vegetables.
Characteristic of the alga Haematococcus pluvialis
The microalga Haematococcus pluvialis is also known as the "blood alga". It produces astaxanthin under stress conditions and turns intensely red. This natural colouring is also seen in animals such as salmon, prawns or flamingos, which feed on the alga or on organisms that consume it.
