Astaxanthin - AstaPure® - 4 mg - 60 soft gel capsules - from Unimedica
The astaxanthin in Unimedica's astaxanthin capsules is obtained from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, which, among other things, serves as a food source for wild salmon. The freshwater alga defends itself against environmental influences by producing astaxanthin, which turns the surrounding water blood-red. Each daily dose of Unimedica's astaxanthin capsules contains 4 mg of astaxanthin.

Astaxanthin softgel capsules: the red power of nature
Astaxanthin softgel capsules from Unimedica contain the patented raw ingredient AstaPure® with natural astaxanthin, enclosed in a layer of soft gelatine. The astaxanthin is extracted from the micro-alga Haematococcus pluvialis. These single-celled freshwater algae create the red colouring astaxanthin in certain environments such as light, cold or lack of nutrition. Then the algae turn a reddish colour.
The softgel capsules are soft and small, making them easy to take.
The source of the red power – sustainable cultivation of the blood algae
The algae used are cultivated in a closed system. This enables better quality control and ensures purity. The entire algae are used for the capsules. In the specially developed formulation of the patented raw material AstaPure®, astaxanthin is found in an easily available form.
An overview of carotenoids
Astaxanthin belongs to the carotenoid group – yellow to reddish-coloured plant substances that are also found in many fruits and vegetables. Other well-known carotenoids include beta-carotene and lutein.
Occurrence in foods
Carotenoids are found in carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, peppers, mangos, apricots, lamb's lettuce and green leafy vegetables.
Special feature of the alga Haematococcus pluvialis
The micro-alga Haematococcus pluvialis is specially known for its blood-red colour. It produces astaxanthin under conditions of stress, thereby turning deep red. This natural colouring is also seen in animals such as salmon, shrimps and flamingos, which either consume it themselves or eat other organisms that consume it.
