Natural resistance as a gel
Gelatinated organic maca powder from Unimedica is a plant protein source. It is rich in fibre and in the trace elements iron and copper.
Iron and copper help, among other things, to keep the immune system and energy me-tabolism functioning normally. Copper supports the iron transport in the body whereas iron is involved in transporting oxygen to where it is needed in the body. It is important for blood formation.

What actually is maca powder?
Gelatinated organic maca powder from Unimedica is extracted from the yellow maca root. To be precise, it is not a root but a part of the plant between the end of the root and the cotyledons.
Maca grows in the Peruvian highlands, where it faces extreme weather conditions. Yet this also means that the plant can thrive on the mineral-rich soils without pesticides and ferti-lizer. Only during sowing is the barren earth enriched with guano (bird fertiliser).
Maca has been regarded as fortifying ever since Inca times. It is still enjoyed in South America as a porridge or in baked products.
Why is maca powder gelatinated?
Mechanical gelatination makes maca powder especially easy to use. The body can better make use of it as it fully dissolves in water and tastes sweeter. During the initial brewing and the subsequent extrusion and grinding, the indigestible starch bonds are broken down and the caustic substances (glucosinolates) cooked out. The gel is milder than raw maca.
How is maca gel made?
Maca is purified in Peru straight after manual harvesting by heating for 1 to 3 minutes at 95 to 100 °C. After drying the maca is finely ground using a special mechanical process. The gelatination is a purely mechanical process without the use of chemicals.
