Bringing the power of the Andes to your table
Gelatinized organic maca powder from Unimedica is a plant-based source of protein and high in fibre. Maca has been considered invigorating since the time of the Incas. It is still enjoyed today in South America as a porridge or in pastries and has now conquered cuisines all over the world. As a powder, maca can enrich any food and drink with its filling fiber and protein as well as other valuable ingredients.
What is maca powder?
Gelatinized organic maca powder from Unimedica is obtained from the yellow maca root. More precisely, it is not a root, but the part of the plant between the root end and the cotyledons. The maca plant grows in the Peruvian high Andes. There, the cress plant is exposed to extreme weather conditions. However, these also ensure that the plant thrives in the mineral-rich soil without pesticides or fertilizers. Only when sowing is the barren soil enriched with guano (bird manure).
Why is the maca powder gelatinized?
The mechanical gelatinization of maca makes maca powder particularly easy to use. The body can process it better, it dissolves completely in water and it tastes sweeter. This is because during pre-brewing and subsequent extrusion and grinding, indigestible starch compounds are broken down and pungent substances (mustard oil glycosides) are cooked out. The gel is milder than raw maca.
How is maca gel made?
Maca is cleaned directly in Peru after manual harvesting and scalded for 1 to 3 minutes at 95 to 100 degrees Celsius. After drying, the maca is finely ground in a special mechanical process. This gelatinization is a purely mechanical process without the use of chemicals.
Each package contains 300 g of powder.
