Maca – a hardy root
Organic maca powder is made from the yellow maca root. More precisely, it is the part of the plant between the root tip and the seed leaves. The maca plant grows on the sparse high plateau of the Peruvian Andes at 4,000 metres above sea level. It withstands extreme weather conditions and is adapted to the mineral volcanic stony soils.
This gives the maca plant its remarkable resilience and nutrient density; it is a member of the cress family.

Thanks to the particular climate in the high Andes, no pesticides or fertilisers are needed for maca to thrive. The roots are sun-dried and milled in Peru to raw-food quality. The powder is traditionally popular for use in baked goods or as a porridge.
