L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid

Eight amino acids are indispensable for the structure and function of our bodies. One of them is the amino acid tryptophan, biologically available in its natural form, L-Tryptophan. The body cannot produce it itself, so we must obtain it through our diet.

L-Tryptophan is the precursor of niacin (vitamin B3), which plays a role in metabolism, and of the neurotransmitters serotonin ("feel-good hormone") and melatonin ("sleep hormone"). The lipophilic L-Tryptophan can cross the blood–brain barrier and thus directly contribute to the production of these neurotransmitters in the brain, where they primarily exert their effects.

The purely plant-based L-Tryptophan from Unimedica is enclosed and protected by a plant-derived capsule shell, making the capsules suitable for vegans.

Plant-based L-Tryptophan from fermentation

Why does the body need tryptophan?

L-Tryptophan is an essential aromatic amino acid that is vital to our bodies. Amino acids form proteins, the building blocks for the structure of our bodies, and enzymes that act as catalysts for bodily processes such as metabolism.

As a precursor of two neurotransmitters, L-Tryptophan supports the formation of serotonin. This neurotransmitter, also known as the "feel-good hormone," influences our mood. L-Tryptophan is also involved in the production of melatonin, which regulates our sleep cycle.

Natural sources of tryptophan

Finally happy again!
For a long time I was just in a bad mood, I racked my brains about everything and had trouble falling asleep and waking up several times during the night. I am delighted with L-Trytophan
I had exhaustion syndrome last year and therefore took serotonin injections, tryptophan as an infusion in the evening and melatonin drops to help me fall asleep. All of this helped me very well. I came across your tryptophan capsules through a patient and we regularly receive your newsletter. I take 3-4 capsules in the morning and am so mentally fit all day long! My energy is amazingly high and my happiness is back. At night I take 2 capsules of tryptophan (instead of the infusions and melatonin) and I always sleep through the night and am rested and refreshed in the morning. I recommend it to many patients in our practice.

No. Not necessarily. I also took tryptophan for a few months because I don't like antidepressants. I always took it in the morning with a glass of water and I felt very well after about two weeks. Tryptophan is an amino acid and you can take it in the evening if you have trouble sleeping, for example, or in the morning if you suffer from depression. A nice side effect was that the quality of my sleep improved even though I only took the capsules in the morning. I had more energy, was in a good mood and not tired at all. There is another person in my circle of colleagues who always takes it in the morning. It's important to take a break after 5-6 months, because the effect usually wears off then....

Tryptophan is one of the most important amino acids, which unfortunately almost everyone has too little of today. In addition, tryptophan has to be taken individually so that it reaches the important places in the brain. This doesn't work with combination products. That's why I always take it in the evening before I go to bed. That's why I keep it in my bathroom. The capsules are easy to take and with plenty of water the capsule probably dissolves very quickly in the stomach.

I didn't buy the product to improve my sleep quality, but because of the positive effect of the hormone serotonin on my mood and performance. Tryptophan is first converted into 5-HTP. I dared to do it
I had read about tryptophan years ago because I have been struggling with depression and anxiety for half my life. I have been taking antidepressants for ages. Hello, I have also been taking antidepressants for years. And I would like to give up these chemicals for just as long. But my doctor (psychiatrist) assures me that tryptophan will not help me. But I still want to try tryptophan. Especially after reading your message here. I have a question for you: Are you still taking antidepressants (at the minimum dosage) or did you stop taking antidepressants altogether and only then start taking tryptophan? I take a minimal amount, about a quarter of a tablet, but I'm almost done, no more to take.I take this dose in the morning and the tryptophan in the evening because you're not supposed to take them together. Of course the doctor advises against it, he'd be out of a job. You have to try it for yourself to see if it works. If I were on a full dose of antidepressants and completely dependent on them, I wouldn't dare take anything else either.

I take 3-4 tryptophan (high dose) in the evening and it is a wonderful sleep aid that is natural, non-addictive and makes you wake up in the morning feeling good and positive. It says on the pack that it is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, but I think this product is also suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women as it is a dietary supplement and pregnant and breastfeeding women in particular have an increased need for amino acids as the baby is also drinking or being nourished. I am still breastfeeding at the moment and really enjoy taking tryptophan and am very pleased with its effects. It also helps against depression, as it not only promotes melatonin (the sleep hormone), but is also essential for the production of seratonin (happiness hormone). Great product, just a bit expensive I think.

Good product
I have been taking it for a good week and have noticed the effect since the first dose. I sleep very deeply and am in a good mood the next day. My girlfriend sleeps after the night shift. Otherwise it takes her a long time to fall asleep because it takes her a long time to fall asleep outside her usual sleep rhythm.

I am disappointed
Bought this product because of sleep problems and mood swings. So this dietary supplement is not for me. I get heart palpitations and dizziness attacks as well as insomnia. It may help others, but for me everything got worse.

Then you certainly don't have a tryptophan deficiency and should try something else (GABA or ashwagandha). Tryptophan for calming/sleeping only helps if you have a deficiency of the amino acid tryptophan (can be tested in the laboratory using an aminogram). If you have a balanced level, then the insomnia has a different cause.

Your problem may lie elsewhere, more in the gaba, the adrenals or the nervous system. Increasing serotonin when your body produces enough of it can have the opposite effect (serotonin syndrome). This could be what's happened to you. Habiba, naturopath.

Not the only solution for me
Unfortunately, tryptophan alone has not yet had the desired effect on me, despite a diagnosed tryptophan deficiency! However, there was another reason for my insomnia - the vagus nerve had been damaged by a previous corona infection! A few treatments with an osteopath, daily vagus exercises and tryptophan in combination now have me sleeping like a baby again!

L-Tryptophan 500mg
For some years now I have often not slept so well at night. Now I have been taking two capsules of L-tryptophan from Unimedica in the evening before going to bed for about two months. I have the impression that I sleep better overall since then. As far as I know, the capsules should be taken on as empty a stomach as possible. If possible, I eat my dinner early, so this is guaranteed. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio of this product is good.
