Produktinformationen
A restful night is the best foundation for a good start to the day
Scientific findings show that restorative sleep is essential for body and mind and depends on various factors. A healthy, varied and balanced diet is an important component.
The Siebenschläfer capsules from Unimedica with a special formulation contain, in addition to the amino acid L-tryptophan, selected B vitamins and high-quality plant extracts, melatonin*, also known as the sleep hormone. Melatonin contributes to reducing the time it takes to fall asleep. This positive effect is achieved when 1 mg of melatonin is taken shortly before bedtime.
7 ingredients combined in one capsule
The vegan Siebenschläfer capsules from Unimedica are highly dosed with 1 mg of melatonin per capsule. The unique composition is further enriched with vitamins B6, folate and B12, the essential amino acid tryptophan and the Ayurveda-valued plants brahmi and ashwagandha in organic quality.
The “sleep” hormone melatonin is produced in the pineal gland (in the diencephalon) from serotonin. It regulates our day–night rhythm. Melatonin is formed when it gets dark, causing us to feel sleepy and signalling the body to switch its activity to night-time rest. This is why we sometimes feel sleepy during the day in the darker seasons due to the lack of daylight. With increasing age, the body’s own melatonin production declines and sleep disorders may become more frequent.
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid and therefore must be obtained from the diet. L-tryptophan is the natural, bioavailable form. This protein building block is a precursor for the body’s own production of melatonin and serotonin. The amino acid tryptophan thus supports the formation of melatonin both directly and indirectly. For the Siebenschläfer capsules, tryptophan from plant fermentation is used.
The vitamins B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folate, folic acid) and B12 (cobalamin) contribute to normal psychological function. Vitamin B6 and B12 contribute to the normal function of the nervous system.
Organic Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) is also known as “small water hyssop”. It belongs to the plantain family and plays a central role in the Ayurvedic tradition. This plant is found mainly in tropical and subtropical regions and is rich in valuable constituents. These include flavonoids and saponins as well as phytosterols and the specific brahmin, which gives brahmi its unique properties. For the Siebenschläfer capsules from Unimedica, brahmi from controlled organic cultivation is gently powdered to preserve the valuable plant substances.
The same applies to the organic ashwagandha extract used. Ashwagandha is also an integral part of the Ayurvedic tradition. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is also called winter cherry, sleeping berry or Indian ginseng. This nightshade family plant is widespread in South Asia, North Africa and Southern Europe.
How a balanced diet helps improve sleep
Your daily diet can also support good sleep. Melatonin is found in oats, maize, rice, wheat and barley as well as in pistachios and red fruits such as cranberries and sour cherries. Overall, however, the melatonin content in foods is low. B-group vitamins are present in meat, fish, eggs and milk. Wholegrain products, cereals and pulses also supply B vitamins. Vitamin B12 occurs only in animal products. Tryptophan is found in pumpkin seeds, soybeans, cheese and turkey.
