R-alpha-lipoic acid (R-ALA) is a sulphur-containing fatty acid. It is produced in small amounts by the body itself. R-ALA occurs as a coenzyme in the mitochondria and is required for the body's immune defence and energy supply in every cell. Alpha-lipoic acid is soluble in both water and fat and therefore also crosses the blood-brain barrier. The R-form of alpha-lipoic acid is the only natural form of this substance.

21 times better absorbed

The R-alpha-lipoic acid capsules from Unimedica contain the biologically active and stabilised form of alpha-lipoic acid. As a result, it is 21 times better absorbed by the body than non-stabilised alpha-lipoic acid.

Patented, innovative ingredient

The innovative ingredient for this, Bio-Enhanced® Na-RALA, comes from the USA. It is a natural material, the sodium salt of the bioactive alpha-lipoic acid. The salt is heat-stable and dissolves very well. This allows the body to absorb it effectively in every cell. During the production of this special ingredient, all contaminants are removed from the natural raw materials so that unpleasant side effects that can occur with non-stabilised R-alpha-lipoic acid do not arise.

R-ALA in the diet

Vegetables such as spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and tomatoes, as well as red meat and offal, are very good sources of R-alpha-lipoic acid.

What are R-alpha-lipoic acid capsules used for?

R-alpha-lipoic acid shows a range of properties that can support our overall wellbeing. For example, it can bind to metal ions such as lead, mercury, copper, iron, magnesium and calcium and neutralise them through a kind of gel formation. Therefore, R-alpha-lipoic acid should not be taken at the same time as calcium, magnesium or iron supplements, as this will negate their effect.

Each jar of Unimedica R-alpha-lipoic acid capsules contains 60 capsules. This corresponds to a one-month supply.

Vegan and free from the following additives

Vegan capsule shell made from pure plant cellulose (HPMC), free from carrageenan and PEG.

Mental clarity and energy boost
I have rarely noticed anything so quickly with a product. I noticed an amazing mental clarity after just 30 minutes. I felt more alert and focussed. Similar to drinking matcha tea, only more pleasant, without the heart palpitations. The effect lasts even longer with the capsules than with the drops. Pleasant effect, especially now in winter, when everything slows down a bit. I have seen that others also feel a boost of energy, some have less appetite and can lose weight easily. Probably goes in the same direction. Lipoic acid is also very effective for nerve complaints, where it helps with numbness and neuralgia.

Stabilised form = 21×bioavailable/universal cell protection
For me, lipoic acid has long been an indispensable natural product. I have always taken it regularly because the active ingredient helps me with detoxification and it has other amazing properties. I felt all this more intensely with the stabilised form. Especially at the beginning of taking it, I was energised and felt stronger inside. The "zapping" of thoughts was as if it had stopped, which I found particularly pleasant. The effect is actually faster and stronger, because I also noticed the exhaust fumes from cars outside on the street as very annoying and more intense than usual. I also found the cigarette smoke in public spaces extremely unpleasant. I think this is because a strong "internal cleansing" was going on. I also have no stomach burning, the capsules are very well tolerated and a special feature of lipoic acid is that it has the ability to prolong or recycle the effect of other antioxidants such as vitamin E+ C, Q10 and biotin!

It's the same for me with the odours. I smell car exhaust fumes much more intensely. It was only through your report that I realised that it was related to the R Alpha Lipon capsules, and I also notice a slight improvement in the polyneuropathy caused by chemo.

Never felt anything so quickly
I tried R-alpha lipoic acid because I was looking for a product that would provide me with optimum support in these challenging times. My expectations were more than exceeded. I felt significantly more energy relatively soon after taking just one capsule. And without feeling energised or nervous. As coffee is already too strong for me, I find this very pleasant. I also have the feeling that something is moving throughout my body and that the lipoic acid really helps the body to detoxify. A nice side effect is that I'm less hungry and feel fuller for longer. This makes it easier for me to resist the snacking during Advent. I will definitely stick with it and hope for further positive effects.

Fewer migraines at last, and when they do they are mild
I've been taking R-alpha-lipoic acid w/MS for a long time but I've never noticed an improvement in anything, so I've always taken a pack and then not for ages. Then, luckily, I bought this Bio Enhanced version. At first I didn't notice it at all, but at some point I realised that I had far fewer migraines. But I didn't associate this with the product. Then I had an operation and stopped all supplements. On the 3rd day I already had very severe migraines, which I was no longer used to. So I googled whether R-alpha lipoic acid can have an effect on migraines and lo and behold, YES. I immediately took it again and the spook was over after 4 days. As the other variants did not have this effect, I am very sure that the Bio Enhanced variant makes a big difference and really works. I have recommended it to my family and it has helped there too. Fewer migraine attacks and when they do they are lighter. As a migraine sufferer, it is definitely worth a try. Improvement occurs after approx. 3-5 days.

I personally would not buy this product again
I wonder what's in it? It's the first R-alpha lipoic acid to give me a headache and nausea after just 120 mg. I also feel very thirsty. I have also given this product to friends. Without exception, they all had the same side effects. Neither I nor any of my friends who tested it can report any positive health events. I personally would not buy this product again!

What you describe sounds like detox symptoms, you can also "google" it 😉 For reactions like this, I would personally just reduce the dosage a little and maybe take something to "cleanse" it? The nausea is a known side effect. You have to take the capsules about 1 hour before a meal. I take them before breakfast. The initial nausea was gone after I took plenty of water (at least one glass). I need three capsules for therapeutic reasons. An empty stomach is probably completely overwhelmed with three sips of water. Despite the high dosage, I have never had a headache. In any case, my polyneuropathy has stabilised!

Goodbye brain fog

Thankfully, I can tolerate it on an empty stomach. Otherwise, always make sure to take it 1 hour before a meal or 3.5 hours after. Otherwise, the active ingredient will not be sufficiently absorbed by the body. Also important: metals, e.g. zinc or magnesium, are neutralised in the body. I therefore alternate between alpha-lipoic acid and zinc supplements on a daily basis.
