PQQ (pyrroloquinoline quinone sodium salt) was only discovered 20 years ago. It is found in the mitochondria, the power station of cells. PQQ is found, for example, in traces in vegetables and meat as well as in papaya, green peppers, kiwi, tofu and green tea. There is an especially large amount of PQQ in fermented foods (e.g. in natto, fermented soya), produced by various bacteria.
PQQ is made by fermentation with the help of specific bacteria (Hyphomicrobium denitrificans CK-275) and a purification procedure.
