What are psyllium husks?
Psyllium husks, also known as psyllium, are the seed husks of the plant Plantago ovata. This plant belongs to the plantain family (Plantaginaceae) and is mainly native to India and Pakistan. Psyllium husks have, among other things, notably strong water‑absorbing (swelling) properties.

After harvest, the Plantago ovata plants, which are grown under strictly controlled conditions, have their seeds cleaned and dried. The seeds are then ground to separate the husks from the kernels.
