Each daily dose of Uniflorin Plus from Unimedica contains 20 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) from 26 carefully chosen bacterial strains. These bacteria, enclosed in enteric-coated vegan capsules resistant to stomach acid, reach the large intestine intact, where they are released. They are nourished with organic inulin. This is fibre made from long-chain fructose. Fructose is simply fruit sugar, which occurs naturally in fruit and vegetables.

Which bacterial strains are contained in Uniflorin Plus?

Uniflorin Plus is composed of a wide spectrum of living bacterial cultures. These bacterial cultures include the spores of Bacillus subtilis and Weizmannia coagulans, acid-forming Bifidobacteria as well as Lactobacilli and further bacterial strains.

Bifidobacteria are natural inhabitants of the human intestine. They are especially common in the large intestine and are found shortly after birth in the intestine of babies, especially those who are breastfed.

Lactobacilli play a central role in the fermentation of many foods such as yoghurt, sauerkraut, kefir and certain types of cheese. Fermentation not only helps preserve these foods, it also gives them a unique taste. As a component of fermented milk products, they help to process lactose.

Lactococcus species, especially Lactococcus lactis, are mainly used in milk fermentation, for example in making cheese, yoghurt and other fermented milk products.

Enterococcus faecium is naturally found in the human gut and is also used to ferment certain types of cheese.

Like other lactic acid bacteria, Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus produces lactic acid, which helps reduce the pH of food and suppresses the growth of harmful bacteria. It helps to break down lactose in milk products. In fermented milk products, Streptococcus thermophilus often works synergistically with other bacterial strains such as Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus to optimise fermentation. It also promotes nutrient density in fermented food.
