Turmeric – the colour of vitality
Turmeric is native to South Asia and is also known as yellow root, saffron root or yellow ginger. Turmeric belongs to the ginger family and forms tubers at the ends of its intensely yellow rhizomes. These are used fresh or dried both as a spice and as a dye.
The intense yellow colour is created by the secondary plant pigment curcumin. The spicy flavour of turmeric is produced by valuable essential oils in the rhizomes and their tubers.
Why do Kurkuma Forte capsules contain black pepper?
Turmeric is poorly absorbed by the body. That is why Unimedica's Kurkuma Forte capsules also contain piperine from black pepper. Piperine improves the bioavailability of curcumin. Black pepper also contains valuable plant compounds and is popular as a pungent spice.
Pepper grows on the pepper vine in the southwest of India. Black pepper is produced when the green, unripe berries of the pepper plant are harvested and then laid out to dry in the sun. This makes the grains wrinkled and black and brings out their distinctive aroma. This treatment also results in a high concentration of valuable compounds in the dried berry.
