Acerola is the stone fruit of a Malpighiaceae native to Central and South America. The fruits have an aromatic, slightly tart flavour and a very high natural vitamin C content.

Natural Vitamin C Acerola Plus from Unimedica contains 250 mg vitamin C per daily dose (1 g) for the normal function of the immune system. A daily intake of 1 g Acerola Plus powder stirred into drinks, shakes, smoothies, yoghurt or muesli covers 312% of the EU‑recommended daily requirement of vitamin C for an average adult.

Acerola Plus
I ordered the powder out of curiosity, as comparable products are more expensive. I stir the powder into a glass of water and most of it dissolves when stirred, some of it forms small lumps. These can be partially dissolved by stirring again. Then top up with water and stir in/scrape off the rest of the powder at the edge. This would certainly work better in a mixer and would dissolve better. However, the remaining lumps don't bother me. The product tastes of acerola. The flavour is very pleasantly fruity. I currently take the amount stated above in the morning before breakfast and sometimes up to 3 times a day. So from three to 9 teaspoons. No discomfort in the stomach/intestines and no diarrhoea as with other vitamin C products.

However, this is actually counterproductive. Vitamin C (whether synthetic or natural) is very heat-stable, i.e. it becomes ineffective when heated. If you mix it with water, the temperature should not exceed 40 degrees. Vitamin C decomposes at higher temperatures. I always drink it with a glass of water (room temperature). The same applies to light. If you permanently expose C to daylight, it oxidises...

It is well known that vitamin C strengthens the immune system. In this form, it can be consumed in a simple way, e.g. in a smoothie or muesli. A lot is not always good.
