Silicon
Silicon is the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust after oxygen and is also found in the human body, particularly in connective tissue, bones, hair and nails. It is involved in collagen and elastin synthesis.
Although silicon is not considered an officially essential nutrient, it is frequently used in dietary supplements for hair, skin and nails. Natural sources include wholegrain products, millet, oats and silica-rich water.
