The publisher writes:
Featuring an extensive symptom index
THE reference work for the main leading symptoms and confirming symptoms for each of the approx. 300 most commonly prescribed remedies. This collection of the essential facts about our remedies is presented clearly and memorably and is based on Dr Morrison's personal experience, but also on his extensive notes as a clinical assistant to G. Vithoulkas. The Handbook of Leading Symptoms is now recognised worldwide as the standard work of homeopathy – practical and timely, it is the quintessence of years of experience with a huge number of patients: your time-saving and idea-inspiring companion on your desk, and without doubt soon to become a much-loved friend whose presence you will not want to be without.
It is recognised within the homeopathic community worldwide as THE reference work for the main leading symptoms and confirming symptoms for each of the approx. 300 most commonly prescribed remedies.
This collection of the essential facts about our remedies is presented clearly and memorably and is based on Dr Morrison's personal experience, but also on his extensive notes as a student with G. Vithoulkas. In addition, R. Morrison has used a large number of reliable sources as the basis for information. Some symptoms have been included in this text which Dr Morrison has not personally confirmed but which come from extremely reliable sources such as Kent, Nash or Lippe.
The Handbook of Leading Symptoms has long been regarded worldwide as the standard work of homeopathy – practical and timely, it is the quintessence of years of experience with a huge number of patients: the time-saving and idea-giving companion on the desk of the classically practising homeopath – a reliable friend whose presence one does not want to be without when working with patients.
The aim of this book is to be as useful as possible to the homeopath in the consulting room. Therefore it is arranged more or less traditionally according to Hahnemann's headings from Mind to Skin. Dr Morrison has added sections: Clinical Indications, Symptom Combinations and Comparisons.
The Symptom Combination section indicates frequent double or triple symptom connections that can be taken as a strong indication for the remedy, even if the remedy is not especially known for any of the individual symptoms. For example, Cobaltum is not an important remedy for back pain, nor is it among the principal remedies for seminal emissions. However, if seminal emissions and back pain occur in the same case, then Cobaltum will very likely be the remedy of choice for the patient.
In the Comparisons sections only the similarities to the remedies being compared are noted. Those remedies that, in Dr Morrison's experience, are most often confused with the remedy under discussion are mentioned here, and the reasons for this are explained.
The book also has an extensive index of over 10,000 symptoms. New in this index compared with earlier editions of the book is that for a given symptom not only the page number is listed but also the remedy or remedies – somewhat like a repertory (which of course is not made redundant by this). This innovation often saves time-consuming leafing back and forth and facilitates the rapid differentiation of candidate remedies or the identification of the simillimum. Compared with earlier editions the book is now about 200 pages larger.
Two separate volumes (which, however, are only available together): The main handbook with the leading symptoms and confirming symptoms has 744 pages, the index to the handbook 620 pages -- together 1,364 pages. Both volumes are bound as hardcovers/thread-sewn, with ribbon markers.
