Organic Ceylon cinnamon - a heart-warming treasure

Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known. Originating in Asia, the use of this precious tree bark has spread across the world. We most often associate its scent with Christmas. Cinnamon gives mulled wine and Christmas baking their characteristic aroma and leaves a cosy, warm feeling of contentment and calm.

At the same time, cinnamon also exudes a hint of mysterious, oriental passion. And while we mainly know cinnamon as a spice for sweet dishes, in the Orient a pinch of cinnamon also gives meat dishes a piquant flavour.

Not all cinnamon is the same

Unimedica Organic Ceylon cinnamon is what is known as true cinnamon. It is characterised by a pleasantly sweet aroma and a lighter, more finely rolled bark than less valuable varieties such as cassia cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon has a milder flavour than other types of cinnamon and is particularly prized as the most aromatic and finest cinnamon variety.

Naturally organic

Unimedica Organic Ceylon cinnamon, ground, is obtained from the inner bark of the Ceylon cinnamon tree.

High-quality Ceylon cinnamon with great properties
Cinnamon is one of those spices that can be used in savoury, spicy dishes as well as in desserts, yoghurt or muesli. I find it heavenly and eat Ceylon cinnamon every day. It starts in the morning, combined with cocoa in plant milk, also with chilli. With bananas in quark, the cinnamon complements the dish perfectly. Not to forget, in all oriental dishes and of course curries, it is a treat for the palate. Ceylon cinnamon from Unimedica is a warming and sweet spice with a fine and balanced flavour, very aromatic and exquisitely fragrant. It makes you feel fuller for longer, stimulates intestinal activity and has an antispasmodic effect on the stomach. For me, cinnamon also replaces the desire to eat sugary foods.

I take a spoonful of cinnamon at a time and let it melt in my mouth with a sip of water. This cinnamon is not sweet but bitter. I find it difficult to take it like this. Previously, I had a Ceylon cinnamon from the international competition with 5 letters. It was darker and probably looked more like Cassia cinnamon, but the flavour was impeccable. I therefore doubt whether the cinnamon from Unimedica is really (pure) Ceylon cinnamon.

Packaging far too large for contents
The cinnamon is OK so far. And I find the 250 grams ideal for a supply. But the packaging is completely oversized. It could have held twice as much cinnamon. The unnecessarily large bag takes up a lot of space in my cupboard. I would have appreciated a more compact size. I'm also concerned about the amount of rubbish that is produced and could have been avoided.
