They say it's every woman's privilege to change her mind. Well, that may be true, but in this case it's the privilege of an experienced homeopath to take the time to digest additional information and reassess accordingly! Continuing education is one of my great passions in life. I enjoy learning constantly from other homeopaths and, of course, from my clinical experience. Sometimes newly gained insights lead me to change my mind completely. All-rounder Nux vomica? So it was also with Nux vomica. I used to mostly say, "When in doubt you should always consider Nux vomica." If you search for this homeopathic remedy in my blog posts, you'll see how versatile Nux vomica is. Nux was a very important and frequently used remedy for me because we lived in a very medicated world. In most cases Nux vomica could help undo the negative effects of the often lifelong use of medication in many of my clients. But meanwhile another understanding has developed! More and more people are avoiding synthetic medicines — or becoming less dependent on them — so that past medication in the medical history no longer plays such a large role. Today I believe that Arnica montana has a much broader range of effectiveness than Nux vomica. How did I arrive at this conclusion? Well, there are two reasons. The first was the rediscovery of my old notes! You may know that over the past year I have written a lot about my Practical Homeopathy® and made many notes. Recently, in one of my courses I presented the remedy Arnica and spoke for a whole hour about this single remedy. At that point I realised how much information I had gathered about Arnica. I only had to sort it and put it into a sensible order! Arnica — the wonder remedyAlmost everyone (even those unfamiliar with homeopathy) knows that Arnica is excellent for pain and injuries. But after reviewing my files, it became clear to me that the list of conditions that respond well to Arnica is almost embarrassingly long. Arnica can be used for:
And that's not all! I could list many more, but unfortunately space is limited. Please always remember that Arnica could be called the Swiss army knife of homeopathic remedies. Besides, it's available almost everywhere — what could be nicer! Arnica seems to be one of the few homeopathics that has almost — I dare say — become mainstream. So many people use Arnica ointment or gel without realising that it is a homeopathic product! With regard to the use of this remedy I should mention that the generally appropriate potency level can vary depending on the condition. Further information on potency and dosing can be found here. As a rule I give it for chronic conditions twice daily at the 30 potency. Lately I have also been using the remedy following Joe De Livera's method, whom you may know by the name Joepathy. It's all about the shakingHe uses Arnica 30 in liquid dilution (instead of globules), which is available from pharmacies. I put three drops of the dilution into a bottle filled with water (500 ml). Before each dose the bottle is shaken 10 times (struck against a firm surface or the palm of the hand) and after shaking a teaspoon of the aqueous solution is taken. Joe is the first homeopath who convinced me to try this method. In my practice I noticed a markedly better effect in some of my clients. The method is also used for my husband, my dog Buster and myself. So yes — I have changed my mind! And that's my prerogative. For that reason my motto is now: "When in doubt — ARNICA!" And I think that once you've read the list above thoroughly, you'll agree with me. Homeopathy helps — spread the word! Warmly, Yours
