She confronts her hereditary blood disease bravely: around me I see only death and decay, but I fight against all adversity. She is 59 years old, a therapist with Addison’s anaemia*, which has developed into chronic lymphocytic leukaemia*. She looks younger, radiant, friendly and always ready with a joke*; this can easily obscure the seriousness of her illness*. Gradually she reveals a host of symptoms and ailments that seem never-ending. |
|
There is a family history of CLL* (chronic lymphocytic leukaemia); her mother and sister have the disease and her father died of bone cancer*. Her own blood picture shows large, unidentifiable cells* and atypical blasts (immature blood cells)*. She has swollen lymph nodes in the neck*, high blood pressure (about 150/95); because of the Addison’s anaemia* she regularly receives vitamin B12 injections. She is lively and tries to take her fate from a positive angle, without being superficial*. She does not want to burden others, which makes her particularly likeable, for there is no hidden selfishness* behind her complaints. Her eyes look profoundly and radiate a strange strength*, which does not seek to possess others but lets them be as they are. Her gaze shows her inner triumph over her weakness. One has the impression that she likes to toy with situations and does not wish to take things too seriously*. Yet her condition is in fact very serious; she can only manage her daily routine with great limitations. The longer she talks, the more surprising it is how lively she appears despite all these difficulties. Her principal complaints are her bowel problems. Since the age of 10 she has suffered from constipation with stabbing pains in the right upper abdomen, as if someone were drilling there with a sharp screwdriver. Six weeks ago she had a colonoscopy which showed purulent diverticulitis and abscesses in the large intestine. She finds relief with enemas and breathing exercises*.

Throughout her life she has had severe infections*, though only rarely with fever*. She was never completely well. She was a sickly child*, and was often closer to death than to life*. Before she was born her mother had two abortions*. After her birth she remained a miserable, stunted child* for a long time. When she was 2 years old she was paralysed for two days by an infection. It was suspected to have been polio, but this was never verified.

Have you ever had an impressive experience that changed your life? “Yes, when I was nine my nephew, who was younger than me, died. I loved him very much. At that time my mother thought I should learn the reality of death*. She made it look nice and took me to the mortuary. There lay the body of my beloved nephew: dead, with blue lips, and there were many other coffins with bodies behind him*. It was a ghostly scene*, cruel and morbid*, death was dreadful. It took me many years to get over it. From that day on I had stomach pains and cramps, and whenever I saw death or decay I would get stomach cramps and hold my breath. Whenever I fell ill I was sure I would die. Wherever I went I saw death and decay*, death seemed omnipresent*. I also frequently had tonsillitis. Once I was very ill and close to suffocating – it was suspected to be diphtheria, because I could hardly breathe and the palate was paralysed. I lost an entire year and slept most of the time, I was completely exhausted. At school I had to repeat the year. When I was 18 I had a purulent lump at the root of the palate that had to be operated on; the operation lasted seven hours. Many years later, in the menopause, I again experienced feelings of suffocation and terror of death*. It almost always came at night, with palpitations, I thought it was the end and that I would suffocate. At that time Aconite helped me.” Despite all her inherited* weaknesses she managed to slowly rebuild her health by living a healthy and disciplined life. She exercised regularly and led a balanced life. She managed to defy the pervasive decay*. When she came into contact with homeopathy everything improved. Rosina Sonnenschmidt was able to help her with Syphilinum and Uranium. Her infections became less frequent and less severe. Her blood picture improved; the leukaemic cells reduced. In recent years Phosphorus helped her with her chronic cough. Her favourite colour is warm yellow 3C and pure blue 15C. When she looks at 3C she feels warm, calm and relaxed; if she looks longer at it she feels a certain inner freedom rising within her. With 15C she feels expansiveness, water and the sensation of moving freely in water. Analysis and follow-up In retrospect there are many good indications for the uranium series, which are marked by the asterisks * in the text. Uranium had even helped her in the past, and the main clinical diagnoses (CLL and Addison’s anaemia) also point in this direction. However, I decided to pursue the history of diphtheria with paralysis after the mortuary incident, because she took this so seriously. After Diphtherinum C200 a true Pandora’s box opened: 20–30 minutes after taking it her old complaints disappeared, the persistent stabbing pains in the right upper abdomen. Then she had the sensation as if her throat were being constricted. A hard mucus membrane formed on the epiglottis, forcing her to retch repeatedly; she could not get rid of it because it was too tenacious and sticky. After a few days she became very restless. After eating she felt nauseous and when brushing her teeth her gums bled bright red. Her sleep, however, was more refreshing than before. After a week her condition worsened. She could no longer concentrate and mixed up data and files in her practice. Her restlessness bothered her greatly and dizziness was added to her confusion, her blood pressure shot up to 160/105. Her entire digestive tract from mouth to anus seemed to be burning. “Everything has fallen into disorder, I cannot sleep although I am dead tired, I toss about in bed and wake up often.” Soon after she received another dose of Diphtherinum C200 she had a spontaneous normal stool, which was very rare for her, but everything else worsened further. “I am so dizzy and my head feels so restless, as if the brain might burst out.” Over the next week her restlessness eased a little, but “it is as if I have lost my brain, I cannot think, I cannot remember anything, any mental work requires great effort and completely exhausts me. I had this state once before 10 years ago, when I was looking at the ceiling frescoes in the Vatican. It is a feeling as if my head were in a cloud, as if there were a veil before my eyes. I rub my forehead to wipe it away.” Only when she mentioned the word “bone marrow” did it click for me: it had to be a remedy from the uranium series! Then finally everything came right.
Prescription: Uranium nitricum C30, plussing method (Ramakrishnan). |

Then everything moved very quickly. In the first two weeks her general wellbeing improved and the swollen lymph nodes disappeared. After three months she phoned to thank me: she was completely healthy, had no complaints at all, and just wanted to bring the good news. She saw no reason to have her blood count checked because she felt so well. She continues to do well even after another six months. |

Uranium salts and hereditary blood disorders This case resembles that of another patient, older, who has responded well to various uranium salts for 12 years. He has hereditary thalassaemia minor. His grandmother, who came from the Mediterranean, and her two daughters had passed the disease on. He is slightly overweight and fully immersed in his work as headmaster of a school. He always has a smile on his face, although he also often struggles with depressive phases. He tries to take things less seriously than they appear, without being superficial. His behaviour does not seem affected or fake; he has a natural sense of humour. He does not want to complain even when ill, but unlike Arnica he tries to cheer up the doctor by being particularly kind and cheerful. In his youth he was politically active, without committing to a party. He would have liked to set up his own model school to realise his ideas, but this plan failed against the reality of the current school system. A younger patient who responded well to Uraninitum (see also Markus Kuntosch’s case) suffered from a severe form of hereditary spherocytosis. Six family members had already had their spleens removed, but he had chosen against that step and for a homeopathic treatment which has been successfully continued for two years. He first received Uraninitum at the age of 15. His bilirubin values were very high (> 8 mg/dl, mostly above 5) and as a result of bilirubin stones he suffered gall colics. Since childhood he has been notably hairy over the whole body. After the first dose of Uraninitum he had a colic, but then his bilirubin value fell to half its previous level. He has taken it once a week since and has progressed very positively over the past two years. |
