Ulrike Schuller-Schreib: A thrill, a flood of ideas, a pastime

News

The three plant families are very similar from the perspective of the sensation method and are easily confused. While, in the Lamiaceae, keywords such as action, thrill and pleasure point to an arousal of the senses, terms such as creativity, ideas and future plans in the Rubiaceae indicate a stimulation of the mind as the central experience. By contrast, the Piperaceae require variety and entertainment to distract from the monotony and pain of existence. In their shared passive response of dullness and boredom, the three families are particularly difficult to distinguish from one another. How the differentiation is carried out in practice is demonstrated by three case studies.
