The case report of a severely depressed patient, using Mentha piperita as an example, illustrates the characteristic profile of the Lamiaceae (mint family) with the central sensation of craving for pleasure and excitement and the extremes of exuberant enthusiasm and profound depression. Because of enthusiasm, great ambition and passionate commitment, they are often very successful people. Bhawisha and Shachindra Joshi assign the Lamiaceae to the sixth row of the periodic table.
