Say goodbye to halitosis! Homeopathy for bad breath

News

Figure 1: In the middle of a conversation – and suddenly the person opposite you steps back. Could bad breath be the reason?

Who doesn’t know it: every now and then breath simply isn’t as fresh as it should be. For occasional bad breath it can help to brush your teeth in between. Or, if you’re out and about, a piece of chewing gum can do the trick. Recently, however, one of my students asked me about chronic halitosis — that is, persistent bad breath.

Chronic bad breath – the cause matters

Figure 2: From respiratory diseases to dental problems – the causes of bad breath are varied and sometimes not immediately obvious.

Halitosis is often a symptom of other conditions, so the remedies considered vary from case to case. I have already written about some of these causes, for example about tonsil stones or laryngitis. If bad breath is caused by these conditions, it is always advisable to treat the underlying cause (you can read exactly how in the linked posts).

Bad breath can also originate from the digestive tract — whether due to poor diet or a disease or disorder in the gut. When you heal the gut, the unpleasant breath often disappears as well.

In my experience, bad breath is most commonly due either to a dental infection or to tonsil stones. However, if both causes are ruled out — and by that I mean truly completely ruled out — it can be halitosis of unknown origin. In that case the remedy Psorinum 200 — to be taken once weekly for 2–3 weeks — might be considered. After that you observe the effect.

Using homoeopathic remedies correctly

If the bad breath disappears after this treatment, the homoeopathic remedy should be stopped. If the breath has improved but is still unpleasant, the treatment can be continued (as we always do) until a clear improvement has occurred. If the halitosis recurs, the intake of Psorinum 200 can be resumed following the same scheme.

Halitosis and unpleasant body odour

Now the question arises what to do if foul breath occurs together with a generally unpleasant body odour. I have already touched on body odour in several blog posts on other topics — for both people and dogs and cats. This is particularly noteworthy in people (or animals) with rather chaotic habits and an unkempt appearance. Here a homoeopathically potentised Sulphur can be considered. Further information on dosage and potency of the remedy can be found here.

Homoeopathy helps people and animals

Speaking of pets: I recently picked up a dog and thought, “Oh my God. It really smells!”

Figure 3: Pets can also suffer from bad breath. Homoeopathy can help in many cases.

Please remember: homoeopathy makes no distinction between humans and animals (or plants). Homoeopathic remedies that work in humans also work in dogs, chickens, pigs, giraffes or aardvarks. So if your pet has bad breath, Psorinum 200 — as described above, once weekly for 2–3 weeks — may be worth considering.

The whole family will thank you. Homoeopathy helps – spread the word!

Warm regards,

Yours
