With this information my first birth many years ago would very likely have gone very differently.
Had I known this remedy back then, before I was an experienced homeopath, my contractions would have been regular and strong — strong enough to bring my son into the world. But no, they weren't.
The birth lasted 39 hours.
Weak contractions are common among first-time mothers. Contractions that stall or start only hesitantly can also form a pattern through many women's birth histories. But it doesn't have to be that way.
Of course we never know what to expect during a birth, so it's important to have the following protocol to hand:
Caulophyllum C30 or C200, taken every few hours when contractions are weak, irregular or variable.
In my second pregnancy I was older — 40 to be exact — and wiser, and I took Caulophyllum C6 daily in the last three weeks before the due date. The birth lasted only four hours and I was able to give birth at home — where I wanted to be.
Sounds much better, doesn't it?
Homeopathy is the only form of therapy that can gently let an unhealthy condition fade away, rather than abruptly ending it. It is also the only therapy that can set the body up for the future, as if starting from a new point because the existing imbalance has been corrected.
The best proof of this, for me anyway, was my last pregnancy (at 43), which was, at least for me, record-breaking.
Labour lasted just under two hours. I was able to give birth standing up and, again, it was a homebirth. (I welcome a short round of applause from you.)
But long labours aren't the only thing that can make a pregnancy a trial. Caulophyllum is certainly one of the most important remedies for birth, but by no means the only one you should have to hand for the delivery.
Many expectant mothers and their midwives rely on these remedies. Here I would like to introduce some of them:
Chamomilla: For painful contractions when the woman is very irritable and may even become verbally aggressive.
Belladonna: For intense, throbbing and hot pains, with the urge to bear down even when it's not yet time.
Arnica: For pain and contractions after birth, bleeding and a general feeling of being exhausted and bruised. I routinely give it in a 200 potency during and after birth, regardless of the symptoms present.
I've written about pregnancy in my blogs before, and I know that expectant mothers can easily feel overwhelmed by the abundance of information. Here are a few small helpers that can provide guidance:
Do you suffer from nausea? Tabacum C200, taken once daily, is a specific remedy for pregnancy nausea.
Then there's Ipecac C30 for morning sickness. Taken twice a day until symptoms improve, it usually helps very quickly.
A solid, non-medicinal state of health is the best gift you can give your newborn baby.
My aim is to pass on the knowledge I have gathered over many years — from my studies, my clinic in Calcutta, and as a mother who treats her children exclusively with homeopathy — to you.
What I would like from you is that you pass it on and share your own experiences with homeopathy.
