Homeopathy for Pain Part 3 – Coffea

News

Title image caption 'Three Cs for Pain: Coffea'

No series on homeopathy for pain would be complete without Coffea cruda.

I have already written about Coffea as an effective remedy for toothache. That alone is reason enough to include Coffea in your homeopathic medicine cabinet. But the remedy is also excellent for pains that keep sufferers awake at night and are accompanied by sensitivity to light, noise and movement.

Coffea for nervousness, migraine and caffeine withdrawal

Coffea cruda is a good option for periodically recurring headaches – including migraine – in women who tend to be nervous. That may not be surprising, as we have already discussed the use of Coffea for anxiety in an earlier blog.

Since we're on the subject of headaches, I'd like to show you how Coffea can be used for a very specific type of headache – the caffeine headache.

Paul can't start his day without coffee. (We all know a "Paul" and some of us are Paul.) If Paul hasn't had his morning coffee by 10 am, he gets severe headaches. In his case the headaches are caused by a lack of caffeine. He has trained his body to expect a certain amount of caffeine every day. When it doesn't arrive at the usual time, everything falls apart – or, more precisely, Paul's head hurts.

Angela, on the other hand, is a big fan of energy drinks. There isn't an energy drink Angela doesn't like. Although the things look like poisonous antifreeze, Angela drinks two of them every day. After that her personal limit is reached. If she drinks more, the caffeine shoots into her head like a bolt of lightning. In Angela's case the headaches are due to too much caffeine.

Homeopathy as a regulatory therapy

The remedy that has proven effective in the past for caffeine-related headaches is Coffea cruda 200, which is usually taken twice daily until the symptoms have clearly improved. You can find more information on dosage and potency here.

You will probably now be wondering how a homeopathic remedy can balance both a deficiency and an excess of caffeine?

Dear readers: Homeopathy is not like conventional medicines. Homeopathy does not hammer at our body to change it in a specific, predetermined direction, as synthetic drugs do.

Homeopathy stimulates the body's natural ability to correct the cause of the pain itself, whether that involves too much or too little.

Homeopathy works with our body and gently brings it back to natural homeostasis.

Proper administration of homeopathic remedies

As with everything in life, there are limits. As always, you should stop the homeopathic remedy if you do not notice an improvement after an appropriate period. If there is no improvement, it is time to look for another remedy that better matches the symptoms present (which also means returning to your repertory and your Materia Medica).

Equally important is that you end the homeopathic treatment as soon as you feel much better. Homeopathy is medicine, not a dietary supplement. We use it only when it is necessary.

Pain is a common complaint, and homeopathy offers many excellent options to help here as well. After all, there are more than just three homeopathic remedies!
