Homeopathy is wonderful.
If you don’t believe me, pick up a materia medica and start reading. The depth and breadth of these remedies is endlessly fascinating.
Take, for example, Sanguinaria canadensis. This remedy is made from bloodroot and is especially known for its action on the mucous membranes of the head and respiratory tract. I have written extensively about this remedy before, including on loss of smell and taste and on sleep apnoea.
This remedy can also be helpful for chronic hay fever, nasal polyps and rhinitis (chronic runny nose).
Sanguinaria for pain in the right shoulder
No wonder Sanguinaria should definitely be in every homeopathic medicine cabinet.
Today I’d like to present another complaint picture for which Sanguinaria can be considered: pain in the right shoulder.
See what I mean? Isn’t homeopathy simply wonderful?
Take Vanessa, for example: Vanessa had pain in her right shoulder – her tendons were to blame. Even tying her hair up made her flinch with pain. She had had to endure this pain for fifteen long years and thought she could do nothing but grit her teeth and get on with it.
Then she heard about homeopathy and became my client.
Diagnosis: rotator cuff tear
After several unsuccessful attempts with general treatment protocols for shoulder pain, Vanessa eventually received a clear diagnosis: a tear in the rotator cuff.
So I went back to my repertory, this time with “an armful” – please forgive the pun – of new information. When there is no specific treatment protocol or the protocol doesn’t work, one should always fall back on the classical repertory.
Sanguinaria caught my eye and I looked it up in the materia medica of one of the great masters of homeopathy, Dr William Boericke. On closer study I found: “Rheumatism of the right shoulder ... rheumatic pains in the places least covered with flesh; not in the joints”.
Indeed, her pain was not located in the joint itself – i.e. it did not originate from the bones. Vanessa suffered from muscle and tendon pain in the right shoulder and in a spot that was “least covered with flesh”. (I love that phrasing. It describes it perfectly. I encourage all my students to read the great masters. They master the language in which they convey their knowledge in a magnificent way. The texts are illuminating and an intellectual treat.)
Sanguinaria 200
Vanessa began taking Sanguinaria canadensis 200, twice daily. Further information on dosage and potency of the remedy can be found here. Would it surprise you to learn that her fifteen-year complaint now only bothers her occasionally and the pain is no longer constant? Vanessa can tie her hair into a ponytail without it hurting. Not even a twinge stirs.
More daring movements – such as lifting something heavy with an outstretched arm – still cause a wince. So Vanessa will continue taking Sanguinaria until the remedy’s effect has been exhausted. She knows, however, that she must stop taking the remedy as soon as it no longer works.
Homeopathy is not a dietary supplement
I have said it before and I will say it again: homeopathic remedies are not dietary supplements to be taken continuously. We stop the remedy as soon as the complaint has improved. If the complaints recur afterwards, we take the remedy again.
Conversely, we also stop taking the remedy if there is no improvement (and of course, after we have given the remedy enough time to show an effect).
What I mean is that, for all its greatness, homeopathy should not be used thoughtlessly.
But if you ask Vanessa whether she believes in the power of homeopathy, she would certainly say yes. She would raise a hand – with her right hand, of course, because she can now do that completely without pain.
Homeopathy helps – spread the word!
Warmly,
Yours
