Dental health: What to do about toothache?

News

Wouldn't it be lovely if the tooth fairy left Schuessler salts under our children's pillows instead of money? Imagine the little ones waking up to find tiny bottles of Calc phos D6 and Calc fluor D12?

Okay, okay … your child would most likely not be thrilled, but the newly erupted teeth would benefit very, very much.

In my blog post Cavities? Try Homeopathy I wrote that Calc phos D6 and Calc fluor D12 can work wonders for your children's bone growth and dental development. These two remedies help make the teeth strong and healthy when taken three times daily over several months.

Homeopathy and healthy teeth

Treating dental diseases with homeopathy - Jean Hego

Homeopathy offers a gentle way to support dental health at any age, whether in early childhood or in older years.

If you think dental health isn't high on your list of priorities, you should quickly revise that view. Poor dental health combined with outdated, aggressive or poorly executed dental treatments contributes significantly to many problems elsewhere in the body – and this affects so many people that I even ask about dental status on my new patient questionnaire.

That is how important your dental health is!

These homeopathic remedies can help

For very obvious reasons we should avoid amalgam fillings and unnecessary tooth extractions. Sometimes that means steering well clear of conventional dental practices. But when you are tormented by severe toothache you are likely to panic and lose clear thinking.

In that situation you do not have to resort immediately to drastic dental procedures; you can try to relieve toothache homeopathically.

  • Pulsatilla is a good choice when the toothache is worsened by hot drinks or food.
  • Coffea — you read that right! There is homeopathic coffee! Coffea helps when the opposite is true and cold drinks and food bring relief.
  • Belladonna is useful for throbbing and intense pain.
  • Staphysagria is the remedy of choice when you find the pain improves on biting together.
  • If the toothache was triggered by cold wind, we can consider Aconitum. The nutritional toothbrush - Johan Wölber / Christian Tennert
  • Also consider Mag phos for toothache with shooting pains that are relieved by warmth.
  • Arnica is a good choice for toothache after trauma, such as
  •  operations, injuries or orthodontic treatments. The affected area feels sore and bruised.
  • Silicea is very likely the indicated remedy when toothache is accompanied by swelling of the face and glands. The patient has a desire for warmth, for example a warm compress on the face.
  • Chamomilla is indicated for teething troubles and for toothache caused by wisdom teeth! One common misconception is that wisdom teeth are superfluous. They are not! They should only be removed if they cause major — and I mean serious — problems. If you have issues with wisdom teeth consult a holistic dentist you can trust. In all other cases you should avoid surgery at first and take Chamomilla 200 twice daily for several weeks. Further information on homeopathic potencies and dosing can be found here.

Dear readers, please familiarise yourselves with these homeopathic remedies. I will keep you updated. The more you learn, the better you will be able to care for your family's dental health. And when friends comment on your beautiful teeth, feel free to pass it on — homeopathy helps!

Warmly,

Yours
