The best of St John's wort in concentrated form
St John's wort capsules from Unimedica contain natural St John's wort extract (Hypericum perforatum L.) in a 10:1 ratio. Each capsule contains 66.5 mg St John's wort extract including 200 µg natural hypericin. This means each capsule contains the best of St John's wort in concentrated form.
Hypericin is a red plant pigment obtained from St John's wort. This is also the origin of the alternative name "Herrgottsblut" for the herb.
When St John's wort bleeds
The red pigment hypericin, known as St John's blood, is found in the yellow flowers of St John's wort. If the flowers are bruised or crushed, the red flower sap is released. That is why the tea and St John's wort oil are deep red.
Radiant yellow blooms and an herb prized since antiquity
St John's wort is a long-known plant. As a home remedy it has a wide range of uses. The herb with its flowers is brewed fresh or dried to make a tasty herbal tea. The oil extract from the flowers is also used for external application.
A resilient pioneer of nature
St John's wort owes its name to the start of its flowering period around St John's Day, which refers to John the Baptist. Widespread worldwide, St John's wort can spread vigorously in gardens and at woodland edges as well as on poor verges, meadows or railway embankments as a pioneer species and impresses with its yellow blooms. As a bearer of hope it paves the way for future vegetation by being one of the first plants to bring life to barren, grey landscapes.
