Beetroot powder brings variety to the table that really packs a punch
Organic Beetroot Powder from Unimedica is made from beetroot (also called beet, garden beet, mangel) grown in Italy under controlled organic conditions. Beetroot is naturally rich in nutrients while being low in calories. Its intense deep red to purple colour gives dishes a lively visual boost and is very versatile in the kitchen. The colour is due to the plant pigment betanin, which occurs in high concentration in the root.
The beetroot powder is a pure raw powder obtained from gently dried and milled whole beetroot. This preserves much of the valuable natural constituents in the powder.
So beetroot lets us share in its high inner values all year round
Beetroot tastes earthy and slightly sweet. It is enjoyed both raw and cooked as a vegetable or salad. Pickled or canned, beetroot offers its advantages all year round. If you do not like the earthy taste of beetroot, you can rely on Unimedica organic beetroot powder throughout the year.
How is beetroot powder used?
Stirred into water, juices, smoothies, soups, dairy products, muesli or dressings, vegetarian spreads, labskaus, borscht or bread and pasta dough or cake icing, beetroot powder gives a strong, vibrant colour and a slightly sweet flavour. Beetroot is also used in industry as a natural colouring for food and medicines.
What exactly is beetroot?
Beetroot is a red root vegetable. It takes a round to elongated shape and develops below the seed leaves (cotyledons) of the herbaceous plant. The name derives from the Latin "beta" for beet and the characteristic deep purple-red colour.
Botanically, beetroot belongs to the amaranth family. It was cultivated from the wild beet. Originally native to the Mediterranean region, it was brought to Central Europe by the Romans. In Germany, beetroot is a typical winter vegetable.
