Description
Beetroot powder brings variety to the table that really packs a punch
Organic beetroot powder from Unimedica is produced in Germany from beetroots grown under certified organic conditions (also called red beet, garden beet, or mangel). Beetroots are naturally rich in nutrients while being low in calories. Their intense deep-red to purple colour gives dishes a lively visual kick and is very versatile in the kitchen. The colour comes from the plant compound betanin, which occurs in high concentration in the beetroot.
The beetroot powder is a pure raw powder obtained from gently dried and milled whole beetroots. This helps to preserve much of the valuable natural constituents in the powder.
This is how beetroot lets us enjoy its valuable qualities all year round
Beetroot tastes earthy and savoury-sweet. It is enjoyed both raw and cooked as a vegetable or in salads. Pickled or preserved, beetroot offers its benefits all year round. If you do not like the earthy taste of fresh beetroot, you can rely on Organic beetroot powder from Unimedica throughout the year.
How is beetroot powder used?
Stirred into water, juices, smoothies, soups, dairy products, muesli or dressings, vegetarian spreads, labskaus, borscht, or bread and pasta dough or cake glazes, beetroot powder imparts a strong, vibrant colour and a slightly sweet aroma. Beetroot is also used industrially as a natural colourant for foods and pharmaceuticals.
What exactly is beetroot?
Beetroot, or red beet, is a red root vegetable. It takes a round to elongated shape and develops below the cotyledons of the herbaceous plant. The name comes from the Latin "beta" for beet and the characteristic strong purple-red colour.
Botanically, beetroot belongs to the amaranth family. It was domesticated from the wild beet. It originally comes from the Mediterranean region and was brought to Central Europe by the Romans. In Germany, the red beet is a typical winter vegetable.
