Interesting, but the complexity is not very clear
It is well known that antibiotics and poor nutrition can cause some damage. What is less well known is that caesarean sections, among other things, can also disrupt the intestinal environment. The description of and research into "faecal transplants" is just as interesting. The book is therefore definitely worth reading. As far as the nutritional tips are concerned, they are too generalised. Allergies or food intolerances are not dealt with in any way, but these arise in particular when the microbiome is damaged. The nutritional suggestions cannot be implemented in the case of salicylate intolerance, for example. Long before anyone realises that something is wrong with the gut, there are often already inexplicable allergies to food. The absorption of vitamins is also impaired if the intestine is disturbed, which in turn can cause symptoms. Inflammatory processes in the gut often lead to histamine intolerance, which is not discussed in the book and therefore the nutritional tips are no longer valid. Anyone with an intestinal defect as described in the book usually has additional illnesses that are dealt with little or not at all and treatment with generally applicable foods is by no means sufficient. It would be more important to refer to a customised diet. Conclusion: good, but incomplete

as exciting as a thriller
This is future medicine, see also the books by Dr Natasha Campbell Mcbride and Sally Fallon, which are very helpful and give you a great deal of independence. "Health starts in the kitchen, not in the pharmacy" :-).

A wonderful book
In 2015, Dr Robynne Chutkan published her book "The Microbiome Solution - A radical new way to heal your body from the inside out". The German edition published by us in 2017 is entitled "The Microbiome - Healing the Gut - The revolutionary way to new health from the inside out". from the inside out". Dr Chutkan is one of the most respected gastroenterologists in the USA. She dedicates this book to her parents and thanks them for a messy childhood. As simple as this introduction sounds, it was a journey to get there with and through the patients she treats and from whom from whom she has learnt so much over the last few decades. In her wonderful book, she writes not only about the tasks of bacteria from the skin to the nose, mouth, throat, stomach, small and large intestine small and large intestine, the urinary tract and the vagina, she writes lovingly about how to create a good intestinal garden, and concludes that food is the most influential factor, as the bacteria follow the food. bacteria follow the food. She also takes care of our skin and hair and shares with us hair, in addition to recipes for nutrition, suggestions for the conversation with the doctor, practical experience doctor, practical experiences from her studies, how to deal with antibiotic administration, she she writes about stool transplants, about illnesses that can be traced back to a sick microbiome microbiome, and she gives us guidance on how to care for our intestinal garden and let it flourish. and thrive. It's a book that changes the way we look at our microbiome and gives us a loving view of it. a book that grounds us and shows us a holistic approach to more naturalness. natu(e)rity. It is a book that takes away the shyness and makes you want to turn more lovingly to your microbiome and to give it more attention.

Groundbreaking!
Should be compulsory reading at school. If people were to adhere to the findings in the book, we would come closer to a society in which we would like to live. "Death begins in the gut" but, conversely, health also depends on our little helpers. Closes an educational gap for homeopaths and nutritionists. Keywords: Written in a detailed and understandable way. With many patient examples. Honest. Astonishing. To shake your head. Responsibility. Hope. Autoimmune is often diet-related and reversible. We are an ecosystem with our microbes. Antibiotics leave effects for decades.

Highly recommended
The book reads very understandably - it is the problem of our time to always treat everything possible with antibiotics. Admittedly, there are borderline cases, but doctors don't usually think about not think about building up the intestinal flora. It is commendable that Dr Chutkan has recognised and publicised this problem.

A practice-orientated book written by a practitioner!
Today, various theories are being spread that someone has put together at their desk with the help of logical exercises. For once, this is a book written by a practising doctor who has tested her approach on many, many patients. She also describes how she came to her conclusions. I always particularly enjoy reading that. It's a book that should really make us think and change our way of life.

Long overdue
Very well written, detailed and clear. Suitable for professionals and laypeople alike. I did my first training in a health food shop 35 years ago and found many things here that are often neglected.

Du bist was du isst
Dr Chutkan is a gastroenterologist and bestselling author from the USA, and her book "The Microbiome - Healing the Gut" is typical of American non-fiction. It builds on each other logically and uses mostly comprehensible paraphrases. Nevertheless, it is not uncommon for technical terms to be used without a more detailed introduction, which I personally found somewhat difficult to read - at least in the theoretical part. Case studies have been incorporated into the continuous text, which present the facts very clearly and leave little room for interpretation. As a result, the style of the book came across as somewhat instructive to me. The subject matter of the book was not entirely new to me and I did come across some familiar material while reading it. However, the new clearly outweighed the old. Also because the book does not focus exclusively on the colonisation of the intestine. I also particularly liked the more practical chapters and the recipes at the back of the book. Both invite you to actively engage with your own body and consider new approaches.
