The ticking time bomb: What a suppressed rash has to do with aggressive behaviour

by Joette Calabrese

The Ticking Time Bomb

Do you hear it? The ticking, very softly – tick, tick, tick? It is the ticking time bomb we ignite when we suppress symptoms with allopathic medicines. It comes from the Latin and means 'sign'. That is why symptoms are always only the outward manifestations of an inner, deeper imbalance.

If we only ever remove the signs of a disease, sooner or later we will suffer from a more serious illness.

Then everything ticks away until the bomb finally goes off.

The problem with suppression

The term 'symptom' comes

Josephine Agro not only had dark, flashing eyes but also the corresponding temperament. There were people, not wanting to be rude, who called her temperament 'sparkling'. But I will be frank here – Josephine was notorious for her violent outbursts of anger. And we are not talking about small fits of temper, but 'destroy-everything-in-my-way' kinds of rage – the sort of anger for which one would normally call the police.

And Josephine was only 13!

But she had not always been like that. Her behaviour changed when she entered puberty. She had long suffered from a severe eczema, which seemed to improve with the onset of puberty. But her nature changed in its place.

From the physical level to the psyche

Her mother wondered whether she might have been bullied at school because the eczema had sometimes looked very unpleasant. But that really made no sense, because Josephine's skin now looked perfectly normal and clear.

Josephine had suffered greatly from her eczema. Mrs Agro is an avowed fan of naturopathy, but she had taken her daughter to a dermatologist because she wanted to free Josephine from her suffering. It is not surprising that the doctor promptly prescribed a cortisone ointment, which caused the eczema to subside within a very short time. So that could not be it.

But a few months later the violent fits of rage began. Josephine became increasingly demanding, unpredictable and out of control. At home she was unbearable and her mother fervently hoped that no one would notice her ugly behaviour. One day, however, the mother witnessed a disturbing incident at school.

She went to take her daughter to dance class and saw Josephine screaming at her friends at the top of her voice and spitting at them. It was a sobering sight. When she asked her daughter what had happened, she said that one of the girls had not laughed at her joke.

“At home she had already been behaving pretty badly, but this behaviour here was simply antisocial.”

Deep healing according to the Organon

Organon of the Healing Art - 6th Edition Samuel Hahnemann

A few years earlier Mrs Agro had attended one of my homeopathic courses and had immediately fallen in love with homeopathy. At that time she bought a book and read it from cover to cover. It was the fundamental homeopathic work, namely the Organon of the Healing Art by Dr Samuel Hahnemann.

She remembered reading that in homeopathy skin diseases are not to be suppressed with allopathic medicines, as otherwise other, much deeper illnesses can appear. She browsed the book and found a passage she had already marked back then.

She read the following:

  • “If now … the local symptom is destroyed by external means, nature replaces it by the awakening of the internal disease … by an increase of the internal malady …”.
  • “Almost all so-called mental and emotional diseases are nothing else but bodily diseases, in which every particular symptom of mental and emotional disturbance is increased … while the bodily symptoms are diminished …”.

The dermatologist was confident that Josephine's eczema would heal with the cortisone ointment, which in a way was true. But when we read Hahnemann's words, we know that the disease was merely driven into a deeper state. Josephine's mother suspected that this was exactly what had happened to her daughter.

Hahnemann emphasised that one must discover something about the somatic symptoms of a patient before they become a disease of the mind. In his view, however, homeopathy also achieves rapid and excellent results in mental disorders.

“My God! What have we done?”

For Josephine's mother it was clear: “The ointment goes straight in the bin.” But she also knew that she had to find a new treatment for the eczema.

Homeopathic Nux vomica for detoxification

First, Mrs Agro gave her daughter Nux vomica C200. She knew that Nux is a good remedy for complaints caused by synthetically manufactured medicines and at the same time helps with fits of anger. Especially in cases where the patient takes harmless remarks as insults. Her choice was further confirmed because Josephine had recently complained of constipation. The start was promising.

Of course the eczema reappeared and was worse on the face than before. It was not easy, but Mrs Agro persevered and was not put off by her daughter's protests.

Antimonium crudum as a follow-up remedy

At this point she gave her daughter Antimonium crudum C6.

Within three weeks Josephine no longer complained of constipation and her destructive behaviour moderated. She was now also sleeping better.

A further four weeks later the last traces of Josephine's eczema had disappeared, only a hint of lighter skin patches remained here and there on her tanned complexion. Like an intricate and harmonious pas de deux, the gentle healing of body and mind was carried out with the help of the homeopathic remedy well chosen by her mother.

Today Josephine hardly suffers from skin complaints or constipation and is emotionally balanced, where previously one might have diagnosed a psychological disorder.

And Mrs Agro's enthusiasm for homeopathy is greater than ever. (I assume Josephine's classmates are, unconsciously, too!)

Mrs Agro has realised that it is not the side effects of a medicine that can be the root of all evil, but the medicine itself that shifts the disease into a deeper state.

This is how the beginnings of many chronic physical and psychological illnesses arise. Josephine and her family have now made a firm resolution to avoid medicines. A life completely free of ticking time bombs!

Pass it on!

Warmly,

Your Joette
