from Buster - Joette’s practice dog (Joette Calabrese)

Hello everyone, it’s Buster again, the cheeky office dog.
You already know me. I always lie with my owner in the office and listen closely. You never know when the word ‘treat’ might come up.
So, this week I heard my owner say she’ll be writing about insect bites in her emergency series next week.
Now my owner is so busy—she’s always tied up with clients and on Facebook and all that—that I thought I’d give her a little hand.
Her notes are right here on my desk, so I just sat down at the computer and wrote what I think. After all, if anyone knows about bites, it’s me.
Please don’t get me wrong. I don’t bite people! No way, that’s not what I mean. When it comes to people, I’m absolutely tame and very cuddly.
No, I mean I myself have been bitten many times—by insects. Constantly. I was a real flea magnet, a living target, so to speak. They chased me everywhere I went!
But this post isn’t about me.
Did you know people can be bitten by fleas too? People get bitten by all sorts of things—mosquitoes, ants, sand fleas and many other pesky little critters. I’m really glad I’m not a human.
For bites that itch a lot and cause small bumps on the skin, my owner nowadays mostly gives Arsenicum album C200, especially when the people become very restless because of the itching. You know what I mean: you have to keep scratching and the itch still won’t stop; it can drive you mad! My owner has a lot of success with Arsenicum C200—it’s taken every two hours depending on how bad the itching is, and then gradually reduced as the itching eases.
For wasp, bee or other painful stings, Ledum palustre C200 is the best remedy. My owner even says that for any bite or sting—whether from a dog, bat or rat—you should immediately think of Ledum C200. It’s usually taken every few hours as needed, just like the other remedies. Ledum is discontinued once the symptoms improve.
If it’s an animal bite (from a raccoon or a squirrel, for example) and the risk of infection is fairly high, my owner works according to the Banerji protocol: Hypericum perforatum C200 together with Arsenicum C200. She calls it simply HyperArs.
(I love it when my owner uses short names. Whenever she says my full, proper name, I know I’m in trouble!)
So, in her notes she also writes about Apis mellifica C200 as an emergency remedy for—hm—‘oedematous swelling’.
Goodness gracious! Oedematous swelling? I don’t know what those long words mean, but they sound awful, don’t they? But my owner has written about this remedy many times and explained everything so nicely that even I understand it.
My owner is so clever! She always knows exactly which remedy to give. I’m really lucky. Because of her (and homeopathy, of course) I don’t have to worry about emergencies!
When we used to live in the countryside, I used to romp across the fields without a care in the world. It was simply my world! Only when other animals come onto our property without warning do I sometimes go a bit mad. But only a little.
Okay, okay… sometimes I really give them a hard time. (At least I do a lot of loud barking.)
I’ve chased raccoons, martens, and so on. Once I even cornered a squirrel in our chicken coop! I had it exactly where I wanted it. But my owners didn’t think that was funny at all. My man of the house came straight away and picked me up and my owner wagged her finger at me. Boy, was she angry!
I know that finger-wagging, but this time it was so bad I thought the finger might fall off.
Then she shouted: “Buster, out! The squirrel could have bitten you!”
I nearly said: “So what? You’ve got a remedy for everything… even if I get bitten. With homeopathy that’s no problem!”
But she looked so angry I didn’t want to argue. (Besides, I have the feeling she doesn’t understand me anyway. I don’t think she knows dog language.)
But between you and me—even you can live completely without fear. Just read my owner’s emergency series and you’ll be prepared. Because anyone can find themselves in an emergency.
And as my owner always says so nicely: Please pass it on so your friends are always ready too! (Especially if they like chasing squirrels as much as I do.)
