I am not a psychiatrist and I do not know the complex subtleties of the brain. But below I would like to show how perfectly our remedies work when the vital force of a patient is taken into account during treatment.
Case study 1
When I was working in Thiruvannamalai, a mother who was a friend came to see me with her daughter. The daughter was mentally retarded and during the case-taking it emerged that at the age of two and a half she had suffered from pseudocroup with convulsions and had to be treated with medication over a period of six months. Before this illness she had developed physically and mentally normally, but the medicines had inhibited her development and the disease had lodged in the brain.
The girl's mother reported that the girl had not been shy as a toddler but now, at 15, behaved like a small child in front of strangers. Her behaviour and speech were those of a small child. She could not help with the washing up, could not clean the floor or draw a straight line for a kolam (Indian floor drawing). When walking she hopped and skipped about.
A single dose of Nux moschata C200 (5 globules) worked wonders.
The following day the shyness had gone. A month later her menstrual cycle began and after three months she could read and write Tamil without needing to continue taking medicines. After 12 weeks there was a setback. Hyoscyamus is the chronic counterpart to Nux moschata. It was given in 1M and within 10 months made the girl as alert and cheerful as the other young women in the family. Before the homeopathic treatment she had been thin, wiry, with stooped shoulders and a dark complexion. A carefully chosen homeopathic remedy could exert its effect undisturbed. No vitamins or supplements were administered. After 10 months she was able to begin a tailoring apprenticeship.
Case study 2
The 35-year-old man was unable to complete his studies at the business school because of a mental illness. He was obsessed with the idea that whenever two people spoke they were criticising him. This belief provoked violent behaviour in him, which manifested both at home and outside, and he had to be sedated.
Why did the man behave like that? I sought a personal conversation with him. In conversation the man's behaviour was not conspicuous. He told me very confidently that others mocked him because of his shortened thighs. He was convinced that his thighs were becoming ever shorter and flabbier. In reality the patient was well built and his thighs were rather thick. In other words, the patient had the delusional belief that his thighs were too weak.
Homeopathy thrives on unusual symptoms!
The appropriate remedy is Sabadilla, and given in C200 it completely restored the man's mental health. The delusional belief disappeared and he also told me that he felt completely normal again. Only his father did not believe in his recovery – psychiatrists generally don't – and continued to give him tranquillisers.
Case study 3
A neighbour from Madras complained about his constantly crying child. The child had to be carried around in someone's arms day and night. The parents took turns; only then was it somewhat bearable. The doctors could find nothing. At the age of six months the child had had an abscess on the head which had been treated with penicillin. No further questions were necessary; a dose of Nux vomica C200 dissolved in water caused the child to fall asleep within 15 minutes. I heard nothing more about the child afterwards. The inflammation had lodged in the brain and made the child restless and irritable.
