Thank goodness — Halloween is over!

News

What a fright – Halloween is over!

When Jessica was a little girl, houses were simply decorated with carved pumpkins or corn dollies. Extravagant decorations, as are common today, were unheard of back then: elaborate graveyard scenes accompanied by eerie noises and spooky music, and things that suddenly leap out at you.

Nowadays some people put a great deal of effort into giving others a fright.

Jessica's sons, 13‑year‑old Nick and 8‑year‑old Jamey, had been nagging for days to go to the big ghost parade. Jessica had an uneasy feeling, but the boys assured her that they could cope with all the “fun”.

(There are times when the gut feeling is far wiser than the intellect.)

It turned out that the event was much scarier than expected. Every time a new monster jumped out from behind a bush Jessica was nearly frightened to death. Nick was thoroughly amused and Jamey put on a brave face for the bad game. Jessica knew he was secretly very frightened and she regretted taking her son along.

Fortunately Jessica was well versed in homeopathy and she knew that the healer in the house could also benefit from a homeopathic remedy.

She searched her records and found what she needed:

Stramonium is a very good remedy for fear. This is not fear of performing at school or of being away from home. It concerns the consequences of a nasty fright. Moreover, it is a good medicine for outbursts of rage and violence, as are sometimes seen in rough play.

Jessica gave Jamey a dose of Stramonium C200 every three days for several weeks, with completely unexpected results.

After the second dose Jamey’s nightmares disappeared and Jessica no longer had to sleep by his bed every night or leave the hallway light on.

But most interestingly, Jamey’s Lego figures had also completely changed after a few weeks. They still shot the baddies and built a fortress against the enemies, but there were no longer bloody battles in which severed body parts flew through the air.

The whole Halloween spectacle may be great fun for many, but especially children can be left with more or less serious fright. For anyone who associates Halloween with being scared and who is frightened by the many costumes, events and horror stories, Stramonium C200 can ease anxious restlessness and the fear of darkness and monsters.

As with many acute conditions, the remedy should be stopped once an improvement occurs.

Note: Please do not assume that your child (or anyone else) automatically needs this remedy just because they were frightened by something. It should be used cautiously and only when it fits the symptoms. That means there must be a noticeable change in behaviour that is related to a particular event.

By the way, that particular event could also be a film or a witnessed atrocity.

Children who shrug off the scares of Halloween but suffer tummy aches from all the sweets are more likely to benefit from a dose of Nux vomica C30. This remedy is reputed to restore calm to the digestion after excesses. Nux vomica C30 provides rapid relief for many complaints such as constipation, diarrhoea, irritability and over‑excitability after too much sugar. It calms emotional agitation and helps the child sleep again without bad dreams.

Armed with these two remedies you have control over the holiday (that’s what homeopathy is about) and can look forward to a worry‑free spook for the whole family.

Warm regards
