Strain, sprain, pain — a job for Ruta

Sprain, Strain, Pain – a case for Ruta

Ouch.

No, really, OUCH and OUCH again!!

We've all sprained something before - ankles, wrists, knees, elbows. Ouch! Right?

Sprains and strains can happen in an instant and yet lead to weeks of painful recovery. How can something as simple as a misstep, a small fall or overextending a joint cause so much misery?

Strain or sprain?Homeopathic Pocket Pharmacy for Leisure, Sport, Home and Travel Eberhard Laubender

The famous Mayo Clinic in the USA defines the difference between a sprain and a strain as follows: "A sprain involves injured ligaments, which connect two bones together, while a strain is an injury to a muscle or a tendon that connects a muscle to a bone."

It is further recommended: "Initial treatment consists of rest, ice, compression, and elevation."

That is very sensible, but they missed the chance here to add a fail-safe method for effective treatment of sprains: homeopathy!

The trip-up

I'd like to tell you that the photo for this blog post came from the archive, but it actually shows the ankle of one of my staff just before Thanksgiving. Tracey's fantastic — and very convincing — story was that she stumbled while attempting a rescue and twisted her ankle at a busy junction when she tried to move a small injured animal out of the path of oncoming traffic.

(And what really happened? Well, let's just say she stood up from the sofa, lost her balance because her leg had gone numb, fell onto the living-room floor and sprained her ankle! Unfortunately, the truth — as so often — is less heroic... and far more clumsy!)

But however the injury actually occurred: as you can see, her sprain was pretty severe. Everyone around her thought it would take months for a full recovery. But you know what?

Rapid recovery with homeopathy

In less than two weeks her ankle looked like this:

No pain. No swelling. Good weight-bearing. Full mobility with only a tiny spot where the old bruise was still visible. It was almost as if the injury had never happened. Her sporting friends were astonished, as they knew how long such an injury can take to settle!

You might be wondering how she managed that? (And before you assume it was simply the healing power of youthful, vital life force, I must tell you that Tracey is over sixty. So no, age couldn't have been the reason!)

Tracey treated herself homeopathically!

Immediately after the injury she took Arnica montana 200. It was clearly a serious injury. Because she wanted to match the remedy intake to the severity of the injury, Tracey took Arnica 200 several times in the first hours after the accident and twice daily in the following days.

From my blog post Royal Pains Tracey also remembered reading about Ruta graveolens 6 or 30 for sprains (and strains). So she added Ruta 30 to her treatment protocol and took the remedies twice daily.

Ruta is indeed a spectacular remedy for tendon injuries and was undoubtedly responsible for her rapid and complete recovery. She also had an emergency cream containing Ruta graveolens to hand, which she now absolutely swears by! Homeopathic Ruta in globule form would certainly also have done well on its own. But Tracey found that the cream gave an additional "boost" of homeopathic attention that eased the pain even more. You can't argue with the results!

A diagnosis remains essential

An important note: following my recommendations she also saw her doctor to have the ankle X-rayed. Had the ankle (or one of the many foot bones) been broken, it would have had to be properly set first before she could have allowed the fracture to heal with a different homeopathic treatment protocol. This shows once again that a medical diagnosis and homeopathic remedies can go hand in hand!

Winter, with ice and snow, is notorious for slips, falls, sprains and strains. Whether on the ski slope or on the way to the car, we need to be especially careful now. (Looks like the living-room sofa should perhaps also be on the "dangerous" list.) But when accidents happen, thank goodness we have homeopathy to hand.

Ruta graveolens should definitely be in your household medicine cabinet, preferably in the versatile 30 potency. More information on dosage and potency can be found here.

If a friend or loved one is injured, it's the perfect opportunity to spread the good news of homeopathy with a remedy that eases suffering.

Homeopathy helps – pass it on!

Warmest regards,

Yours
