In Walt Disney's film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" Sneezy is the lovable and funny dwarf. In real life, however, sneezing fits can be embarrassing, unpleasant and, sometimes, quite literally overwhelming.

I know what I'm talking about. My husband suffered from severe sneezing fits, but without the sweetly chirping birds and pleasant earworms. Once he even sneezed 40 times in a row and was ultimately so weakened by the exertion that he literally went to his knees!

Before you reach for a homeopathic remedy right away to suppress the odd sneeze, I would like to urge you: "Please don't react in panic! Don't take the sneezing itself too seriously. A few sneezes in succession are no big deal. In this way the body is trying to get rid of an irritant, an allergen or a foreign body."

If you generously seasoned your evening meal with black pepper and a sneezing fit follows, you don't need to do anything.

Homeopathy for paroxysmal sneezing

But if you suffer from stubborn sneezing attacks — sneezing that severely affects your quality of life — then it's time to address it. First, I want to make clear that it's not just about the sneezing itself. No. We focus on getting to the root of the problem and addressing its cause.

So ask yourself what the sneezing is associated with. What complaint is it? A cold? An allergy? In principle, that doesn't really matter. Once the underlying condition manifests with violent, severe and repeated sneezing fits, Arsenicum album 6 is generally the homeopathic remedy of choice.

When my husband collapsed because of the particularly severe sneezing fit mentioned above, I gave him Arsenicum 6 as an emergency remedy. I also recommended that he take the remedy twice daily until he no longer felt unwell. Arsenicum not only ended the acute sneezing attack, but — more importantly — it gave his body the decisive impulse to correct the underlying disorder naturally.

Arsenicum worked so well for my husband that he no longer suffers from those tormenting sneezing fits!

Arsenicum or Galphimia?

You may recall — I once wrote about sneezing fits in Allergies – break free from your prison. At that time I discussed the remedy picture of Galphimia glauca for severe sneezing attacks. I always say that in homeopathy there are many roads that lead to Rome. Therefore I try to introduce my students to more than one remedy so that they are well informed and can make their own decisions.
