I met the patient, a 40-year-old man, in September 2011. His main complaints were his current diagnosis of “hyperthyroidism” and his high blood pressure. Worries about his health and about providing for his family |

| Appearance / Early baldness “I'm vain; it's important to me to look good and to dress well. It was traumatic for me when I developed baldness; I would never have thought that could happen. I was just leaving my parents' home to go to university, and it took a long time, years, until I could accept having no hair on my head. |

It means a lot to me to look good; I want to have a nice body, to present a pleasant appearance, and it is very important to me to look good. I never wanted to gain weight, I have a body-fat scale and constantly check my weight.” |

Prescription Calcium fluoratum is not the primary remedy for hyperthyroidism. However, the overall remedy picture of anxiety about health, loose ligaments and early hair loss, as well as the atypical hyperthyroidism symptom pattern, fits. I prescribed a single dose of Calcium fluoratum C 200. |
| Follow-ups October 2011 He reports that he feels generally better. “My pulse was 82, but now it is 72 or lower. I have more energy. I no longer have the palpitations like before. I now weigh 82.5 kg.” Repeat dose Calcium fluoratum C 200, one dose. December 2011 He reports that he feels tired again, although his energy had improved for a few weeks after the second dose in November. He is more stressed at work, as he had changed jobs in January and had to finish projects. His pulse still lies at 72 and his weight is now 83 kg. His thyroid specialist reports that his T3 and T4 levels have decreased slightly. He is having difficulties with his family and his back pain has worsened again. Calcium fluoratum C 200, one dose. January 2012 “Both times I noticed an increase in my energy level after taking the remedy, but it did not last long. But my thyroid values have improved, I am now within the normal range. He is very busy with his new job and has to work longer hours. The back complaints have further worsened. He says he feels more relaxed about family relationships and ‘lets things take their course’.” Calcium fluoratum 1M, every 2 weeks. March 2012 “Since I have taken the 1M (I have now taken it four times), I have noticed a great improvement in my well-being. I believe I no longer have thyroid problems.” He reports that his energy and sleep are good and he has no palpitations. “I have been playing basketball since January and my back is holding up now, unlike before.” The latest tests show that his TSH level (thyroid-stimulating hormone) is still somewhat lower than normal, but the T4 value is back in the normal range, T3 is still slightly elevated. “I'm getting on better with my family. My sister and her family have come round, they are making more of an effort now. We spent a week with our parents, and everything went fine. My attitude to life has changed, as have my expectations. We did not argue.” No remedy given. May 2012 “My T3 and T4 are now in the normal range, but the TSH is still a little low, but I don't need to take anything anymore. My work was very demanding, but my back is holding up.” He was in a difficult situation with a very demanding boss and had to do a lot of overtime because the rest of his team was in China. He said he felt exhausted. Calcium fluoratum 10M, one dose. July 2012 He reports that he is doing well; his thyroid symptoms have stayed away, his back is better, and the stress at work has also eased because his boss resigned. “My boss leaving was a gift from heaven. I wouldn't have known what to do, except take another job. It happened out of the blue.” Things with my parents are good. In fact, in recent months they have come round and pay us much more attention; they make more of an effort, and call more often. They have visited us twice; it has never been so good since we have been here.” He plans a 10 km run in the autumn and his weight is back at 85 kg. He has mild knee pain and mild tinnitus (ringing in the ear). No remedy given.
