Hello there, it's Buster again, the cheeky office dog!
Since my last post a lot has happened to me! You know, my humans moved house this year and that literally kept me on my toes. I tested new walking routes, had to find lots of cosy sleeping spots in the new house and, of course, thoroughly sniffed everything (you can't imagine how much time you can spend sniffing).
But actually today I want to tell you about my friend Lily. I think she's stunningly beautiful! And I believe she knows how I feel about her.
Sometimes Lily can be really sad. Then she withdraws and doesn't want to play. Maybe it's because of her allergies, which are particularly bad in autumn and spring. Lily's owner is very upset about it too.
(I think you know Lily's owner. It's Kate, the lovely lady who does the podcasts together with my owner Joette.)
Kate has treated Lily's allergies quite successfully with Calc carb C200 and Bovista C200. You know you should always investigate the cause and that worked really well for Lily. You just need to give the homeopathic pellets for long enough during hayfever season.
The treatment protocol comes from the blog my owner writes for people. But for us soft, cuddly four‑leggers it's exactly the same.
Even animals without fur can be treated this way. I heard in a podcast that a woman was able to treat her bearded dragon very successfully with homeopathy! (I'm sure I'm speaking for all dogs when I ask why anyone would bother with a bearded dragon. Hmm.)
They have absolutely no soft fur. Anywhere.
But back to my story.
Lily regularly goes to the dog groomer to be pampered. And the nice lady there actually found little hot spots on Lily! Do you humans get those too? They're little red, hot patches on the skin that itch like mad. We then have to scratch all the time, even though we know it's not good for us. BUT THEY JUST ITCH TOO MUCH!! So we scratch, lick, nibble and chew at those things like there's no tomorrow. Of course it doesn't help, it only makes everything worse.
Then Kate suddenly remembered she could look in her medicine cabinet for an acute remedy. For a homeopathic medicine that complements the effect of the remedies for the chronic allergies.
It's been a while, but she had once jotted down that Kali carb C30 works great for hot spots. (Believe me, if the pens didn't always slip through my paws I'd write that down too. You never know when that information might come in handy.)
My owner is really proud that Kate found such a good remedy for Lily. Most people think you can only give Kali carb for coughs. But that's not true. Boericke writes that the symptoms also include hot, burning spots on the skin "as if a mustard plaster were applied". That fits hot spots perfectly, doesn't it? Other remedy books also say it can be used for itching, urticaria and sensitive skin. So it suits Lily's symptoms very well.
Kate used it correctly and gave Lily Kali carb four times on the first day and then twice daily. When the skin improved she stopped, i.e. she saw that Lily was no longer licking and nibbling herself as much. And as with humans, Kate would have given it again if Lily had started to scratch.
Oh, is that a squirrel running past? Sorry, I get distracted so easily.
So, Kate then also treated Lily with Apis mellifica C30 to stop the terrible itching. Apis may not be the first remedy you think of in this context, perhaps not even the second. There are many homeopathic remedies that can help with itching. But my owner says that homeopathy is guided by the symptom picture (wow) and it's the same for dogs.
Kate tried various remedies for Lily and found that she responded particularly well to Apis C30. In addition to Kali carb, she therefore gave Lily Apis C30 to help her through the 'hot' period.
People, don't let your cuddly friends suffer from hot spots! Think of the homeopathic pellets that help your pets just as well as the rest of the family. We happily lap 'pellet water' or let the globules dissolve on our tongues. My owner always puts the pellets on the floor for me so I can lick them up, but I'm of course especially talented….
Oops, my owner just caught me at the computer… gotta go, there's definitely a squirrel over there……
