The eyes are the mirror of the soul

Our eyes.
Whether blue, brown or green – the tasks they fulfil for us are unparalleled.
With our eyes we recognise our loved ones, can better assess dangers, admire works of art and acquire knowledge.
People around us see how we are by our eyes and may even be granted a glimpse into our inner life. Now, however, in these days of ubiquitous masks, they may be the only part of our face that is visible and allow others to identify us!
If in these times a stye makes its way to the surface, we notice it twice as quickly.
As a rule, the first remedy we think of for this problem is the homeopathic medicine Hepar sulfuris calcareum C200, taken twice daily until the stye has clearly improved. Hepar sulph is especially indicated when the stye is very painful.
However, it is increasingly common for styes to occur in people who at the same time develop a noticeable state of mind: they feel worthless and good for nothing.
These can be people who feel small, take things very personally or have low self-esteem. They believe they have always come off worst. Perhaps it is the woman next door who is intimidated by her boss or a friend.
Recently I have also repeatedly met men who have lost their jobs or had to suffer a loss. Especially young men find it hard to hold their own against a veritable tidal wave of well-educated young women.
Allow me this brief discourse.
Men are finding it hard in these times.
And yes, I am speaking of all the events that COVID-19 has set in motion, of unemployment and the unexpected turns life takes.
But I am also speaking in the more general sense of our modern times! These are hard times for men.
Men have been pushed into a corner and are therefore confused. Should they be polite and courteous and hold the door open for us, or will a woman perceive the polite gesture as condescending?
Men have been sidelined to make way for the third wave of the women's movement. By that I mean that many women are being propelled upwards simply because a quota needs to be fulfilled. (I know that this was the case for me!)
So where are the men?
Many men now feel under pressure to perform even more in order to gain recognition and progress professionally. Moreover, they do not have as many options open to them as we women do.
It is very rare to meet men who give up their profession to become 'househusbands' and raise children. We women can choose – to work, to stay at home, or perhaps even both – without being subject to social stigma.
The women's movement overshot its original goal long ago. I would say that was already the case 50 years ago.
In the eyes – the mirror of the soul – we can see this psychological frustration. Not only do we see despair in the eyes of our loved ones, but also their tendency to recurrent styes.
When this state of mind occurs together with a stye, I would choose the homeopathic remedy Staphysagria C30, taken twice daily until a clear improvement occurs. That said, it is also a good remedy for chronic styes regardless of the individual's mental state.
Times change in a rhythm of ebb and flow. Sometimes it's ebb and sometimes it's flow. As we can easily see in these times, things can change overnight.
Homeopathy, by contrast, is a constant; it always supports us, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in.
Homeopathy is personalised independence. Once you have regained self-confidence in your familiar surroundings at home, you are ready once more for the first step out into the world! You could give your loved ones no greater gift!
