In recent weeks I have introduced three different homeopathic remedies, all beginning with the letter C, which are excellent for treating various types of pain. You thought I was done with pain?
You were not mistaken; in fact I had already reached the end of my short series. But I would like to present one more C-remedy for pain: Colocynthis.
After all, let's not be stingy — you've earned a bonus! We have already discussed the following homeopathic remedies:
Colocynthis in homeopathic potency has in the past proven effective for constrictions, tensions and cramp-like pains.
When you double up in pain
For example, Colocynthis can be given for abdominal pain in which the sufferer doubles up in pain. This also includes colic in babies who can only be soothed and calmed when the abdomen is pressed continuously.
In a similar way, Colocynthis can be considered for menstrual complaints, especially when the affected woman has to curl up into a ball from the pain.

Painful muscle twitches or cramps — including severe muscle soreness — also fall within the indications for Colocynthis.
Furthermore, Colocynthis is an excellent remedy for tormenting neuralgic pains, particularly in the head and facial area (e.g. trigeminal neuralgia).
Although these pains are certainly not easy to bear, we welcome the valuable symptoms because they help us narrow down the selection of suitable homeopathic remedies.
Taking the remedy correctly
It is still best to have your materia medica to hand — that is, a homeopathic materia medica — and consult it about the remedy before making a choice.
If Colocynthis appears appropriate, it is generally taken in the 30th potency twice daily. For very severe pain, however, you may choose to take one dose every 15 minutes during the first hour and thereafter every few hours until the pain has clearly improved. (One dose corresponds to the number of globules indicated on the medicine's package leaflet.)
Further information on the dosage and potency of the remedy can be found here.
Gentle medicine for a pain-free life
Please be sure to also look at the other blog posts in this series. Pain is an inevitable part of human existence. So shouldn't we equip ourselves with the competence and confidence to use this natural, gentle and proven medicine with reproducible results?
When we adopt a homeopathic mindset, we will benefit from the knowledge that the body is still capable of astonishing achievements even in a state of pain.
Through pain symptoms the body communicates in an intelligent way.
If you heed this message and treat with homeopathy rather than suppress the symptoms with synthetic medicines, you can ultimately follow the path to healing.
