Homeopathy for gastroenteritis

Phosphorus as genius epidemicus in the current gastroenteritis (stomach flu)

Update 13/01/16

The gastroenteritis virus continues to rage in Germany. It shows a recurrent character regarding nausea in the upper abdomen as well as constantly occurring dizziness. Repeated doses of Phosphorus C200 make the symptoms disappear very quickly. When cold symptoms reappear with an irritating cough, patients usually need Carcinosinum C200.

In some cases the virus also causes spotty, partly itchy rashes, often on the face, which do not clear with cortisone cream. A few doses of Medorrhinum C200 cure the eczema permanently. This virus clearly shows that the corresponding miasm is being awakened in the patients.

About two months ago the first patients complained of suddenly occurring, pressing upper abdominal pain with severe nausea and weakness. After drinking something they often had to vomit several times, in some cases for 2 to 3 days. Later they also suffered from diarrhoea. A few days later they suddenly developed an irritating cough, especially at night, with severe sore throat and hoarseness. Children often had fevers up to 40 °C. Adults complained of a feeling of pressure and breathing difficulties in the chest; in some cases a beginning pneumonia even developed.

To find the remedy Phosphorus I repertorised the following symptoms:

1. Abdomen – pain – upper abdomen – pressing
2. Stomach – vomiting – after drinking – immediately afterwards
3. Stomach – vomiting – incessant
4. Stomach – vomiting – diarrhoea – before
5. Inner throat – pain – after vomiting
6.  Inner throat – pain – during chill
7.  Cough – irritating cough, constant irritation
8. Cough – irritating cough, constant irritation – at night
9. Dizziness – accompanied by – vomiting
10. Larynx and trachea – inflammation – larynx – catarrhal
11. Cough – hoarse

Observations

The remedy of choice for over 150 patients was each time Phosphorus C200. In particular the C200 proved effective. When patients complained of the beginning upper abdominal pain and sudden nausea, two doses of Phosphorus C200 within 2 hours very often prevented the onset of the gastroenteritis; Phosphorus C30, on the other hand, was too weak.

Some patients complained since the gastroenteritis of recurring dizziness with weakness, a pressure‑tender abdomen with severe, painful bloating and digestive complaints. Three doses of Phosphorus C200 over 2 days made all complaints disappear immediately.

The dry, recurrent irritating cough, which also resembled whooping cough, often occurred continuously during the day and night. Phosphorus C200 for 3 days, three times daily, brought very rapid improvement.

Other patients awoke in the morning with sudden severe hoarseness and sore throat. Here too Phosphorus C200 provided rapid relief.

A few patients developed kidney problems and bladder infections after the flu. Again Phosphorus C200 was able to provide immediate relief.

Final treatment of the flu, when e.g. weakness and/or an irritating cough remain after the flu

Some patients were weakened after the infection and a slight irritating cough remained. They were not ill, but not fully well either. These patients had often had mononucleosis in the past and therefore needed a few doses of Carcinosinum C200; the virus had activated the carcinogenic miasm.
