Gout: How homoeopathy also helps baby boomers

News

Figure 1: Gout – acute inflammation with redness and swelling at the big toe joint.

Not every baby boomer will automatically develop gout, but experience shows that many older people – especially in the industrialised nations of Western cultures – frequently fall victim to gout. In general, men suffer from this condition more often than women. However, metabolism also changes as we women age, so we too can be affected by gout.

So let’s take a closer look at this condition before the next holidays arrive and we enjoy the typical oxalate- and uric-acid–rich foods.

What is gout?

Gout is a form of arthritis (and can, incidentally, also promote kidney stones). It arises when uric acid and oxalate crystals accumulate in the joints, leading to inflammation and the often agonising pain of a gout attack.

Think of these crystals as sharp “shards of glass” (for lack of a better description) that lodge in the tiny spaces of a joint. It will come as no surprise that even the smallest movement of the affected joint can be extremely painful, as the crystals grate against the sensitive tissue.

Unfortunately, this condition is very common. Gout can theoretically occur in any joint, but toes, ankles, knees and fingers are most often affected.

The agonising pain of a gout attack

In the middle of the night the grandfather of one of my pupils woke with the sensation that his big toe was on fire. On closer inspection it was red, swollen and hot. Grandpa knew immediately what was wrong – after all, it wasn’t his first gout attack. (He was also aware that he’d overindulged in rhubarb cake the day before.)

The pain was so strong and intense that even the weight of the duvet felt like torture. Bearing weight on the affected foot was out of the question.

What to do?

My tried-and-tested gout protocol

The following protocol has never let me down. That is a very bold statement, isn’t it? But it is true. In my experience, most Banerji protocols are effective in around 80% of users. This particular Banerji protocol for gout has proven absolutely reliable in my clients.

Benzoicum acidum for gout

The following statement comes from the Banerji doctors themselves: “Benzoicum acidum C30, one dose daily, cures the condition; the treatment should be continued for at least 3 months.”

There’s that word I’m reluctant to use: “cures”. In the West we generally try not to make sweeping claims about a cure. After all, we cannot verify the correctness of the healing method chosen by a particular person nor the discipline with which it is applied. Therefore I rarely use the word “cure”.

But the Banerji doctors, with their combined 150 years of clinical experience, said exactly that.

Benzoicum acidum C30, used once daily, effectively addresses the cause of gout attacks. While we usually use homeopathic remedies only until there is a clear improvement, the Banerjis specifically stated that this protocol should be applied for at least three months.

Why contradict the old masters?

If after three months the condition is noticeably better, it would be appropriate to stop the treatment. However, if the condition persists after those three months, you should continue the treatment until a clear improvement occurs. Don’t be frustrated or discouraged. Remember that the recommendation was for at least three months.

Ledum palustre and Belladonna for acute attacks

Thanks to Benzoicum acidum we are diligently working to eliminate the underlying condition. Most acute gout attacks, however, come with extreme pain – and I mean really severe.

But don’t worry. The Banerjis also have a protocol for acute gout attacks. They go on to say: “For acute pain with swelling and redness, Ledum palustre C200 in combination with Belladonna C3, one dose every three hours, often provides great relief.”

This matches my clinical experience.

If grandpa wakes in the night next time with an unbearable gout attack – if there is a next time at all – he can reach for the combination of Ledum palustre C200 and Belladonna C3. (“Combination” here means that both remedies are taken together.)

When the two remedies are taken as needed every three hours, the pain usually eases and then subsides, allowing the sufferer to reach a more tolerable state, while Benzoicum acidum works on the underlying condition itself.

My practical Homeopathy® may come too late to help people of former times, but it arrives just in time to help our loved ones now – especially the baby boomer generation, who may be facing gout pain for the first time in their lives.

Homeopathy helps – spread the word!

Warm regards,

Yours
