How best to ruin a lovely car outing? By the nausea that often accompanies it, simply called travel sickness. Then it's usually not only the person affected who suffers; other fellow travellers can have their enjoyment of the journey thoroughly spoiled.
What can we do about it?
As always, it's worth having a homeopathic first-aid kit to hand, or buying the appropriate remedies at the pharmacy before setting off on the journey.
The remedy that has worked very well for me is Tabacum C30 (e.g. from Hylands). Like with the very first cigarette, the nausea here is terrible and the sufferer only finds relief when they have vomited their stomach contents. I must admit that I too smoked cigarettes in my younger years and can well remember this nausea, which had to be held back at all costs to impress my school friends.
You could also consider Cocculus C30 (e.g. from Boiron). This remedy is well suited for nausea accompanied by dizziness (the thought of it alone makes me feel sick!). So Cocculus can treat two symptoms at once. If you or someone in your family suffers from this combination of symptoms, this remedy can provide relief.
When my son was 10 years old he really felt sick on every car journey. Even today his brothers like to remind him how terrible his 'escapades' were for the whole family back then.
In fact, he had only felt sick twice before I gave him Tabacum C30. Within 15 minutes he felt better. We were stuck in a traffic jam and couldn't leave the motorway. On the next trip he took the remedy just before setting off and then at intervals of roughly an hour, after which he was cured.
Cured and the matter closed. Everything was fine. We never had to deal with this issue again. My son is now an adult and remains symptom-free.
Recently I heard about a combination remedy from the company Hyland. It's called 'Motion Sickness' and was recommended to me by my students; they are very enthusiastic about it. I don't know the product myself, but I do know that Hyland is a good and reliable company. 'Motion Sickness' contains, among other things, Tabacum and Cocculus.
Is it any wonder I love homeopathy so much? I never travel without my homeopathic travel first-aid kit, whether by car, plane, train or ship.
