Each of us knows at least one of those people. You know the type – people who positively radiate joie de vivre and in a single year seem to achieve more than others do in a whole lifetime.
Every time you meet one of these people, you want to pepper them with questions to find out what they eat, why their skin is so clear and glowing, and how they manage to be so utterly successful.
So it is with Suzy. You only have to look at her once to know there must be a secret behind her radiance.
But things are not always as they first appear.
There was a time when Suzy herself was very sluggish and would have preferred to hide from everything. In the mornings she found it hard to get out of bed and had to force herself to get dressed. Then came the battle over the daily family breakfast and the rest of the household chores.

Everything became a constant struggle. Life was one continuous, endless exertion.
She consulted a naturopath who diagnosed adrenal fatigue. The word 'fatigue' was the only thing she registered from that; the lab results impressed her little.
Suzy, then an enthusiastic student of homeopathy, ignored the long list of prescribed supplements and analysed her symptoms through the 'homeopathic' lens.
Allow me to make clear here that in homeopathy (and especially in the homeopathic method I practise and teach) we do not simply ascribe fatigue to the adrenals. In fact there can be a variety of causes and triggers.
For example, the fatigue in Suzy’s case could be traced to the three children she had given birth to within four years. Or the long period she breastfed her children. Or a particularly severe bout of flu.
There are several homeopathic remedies that can be given for fatigue (the specific diagnosis matters less: adrenal fatigue, fatigue following grief, postnatal fatigue, after consuming too much coffee or chocolate, or as a side effect of conventional medicines and low testosterone levels in men).
For us homeopaths it is not the blood values that are decisive, but the individual symptoms and a person's life situation. Do we even need saliva or blood tests? Not always in a homeopathic treatment.
During the breastfeeding period after her last childbirth, Suzy had to admit she was seriously exhausted – the fatigue was greater and deeper than anything she had experienced before.
But apparently it had nothing to do with the birth, because in the months afterwards she felt great. The tiredness came twelve months later.
Her baby Gino had an insatiable appetite. He still wanted a feed at night and demanded lengthy breastfeeding sessions during the day too.
Suzy did her best for herself and the baby; she ate healthily and nutritiously, but Gino wanted more and more! (This can be regulated homeopathically too — read on!)
Fortunately Suzy had enrolled in a homeopathy course and knew that the remedy China officinalis, also known as Cinchona officinalis, is given specifically for states of fatigue following fluid loss.
It is particularly helpful for breastfeeding mothers. With regard to Gino’s big appetite and her consequent exhaustion (you don’t need tests to determine that), Suzy began taking China officinalis C200 (Cinchona officinalis C200) once daily.
A week later (sometimes it takes a little longer) she had already forgotten how tired she had been! She even skipped her midday nap.
She had forgotten that she had previously merely vegetated in front of the computer and took no interest in the housework.
She would have completely missed it if her husband hadn’t pointed out that she was not only fulfilling her daily duties but had also cleared out the cellar, made lasagne from scratch and done the weekly shopping – all in one day!
When you see Suzy today, it’s hard to imagine that she once sat on the sofa for days and persuaded her children to cook the family meals.
Today she is admired by others for her radiance and zest for life.
As for baby Gino – he received Calcarea phosphorica C3 and Lycopodium C200 twice daily for several months.
The ravenous appetite subsided and so did the bloated tummy. After a few months the two remedies could be discontinued.
Suzy no longer needs to take China officinalis either.
Why is that? Because homeopathy heals and does not aim to suppress problems while relying on supplements or artificial props. It simply removes the cause.
I remember how the doctors at Dr Pratip Banerji’s clinic in Calcutta use China officinalis in their daily work. It is given to women who must toil in the fields day in, day out in great heat.
It has become almost a standard prescription there for states of fatigue resulting from physical overexertion with heavy sweating.
China officinalis has also become a standard prescription for me. I give it for states of fatigue that occur following fluid loss. You don’t need saliva or blood tests for this. Just common sense and practical homeopathy.
Suzy knew China because she had heard about it in my course for breastfeeding mothers. You may be surprised to hear that you too can treat your own family. And you may also be surprised by how happy it can make you to possess this knowledge … quite without official lab values.
