Genius epidemicus of the current Romanian flu epidemic

Belladonna

• Fever, ranging from slightly raised temperature to very high, with exhaustion.
• During feverish states paleness, cold nose, cold extremities (DD Arsenicum)
• Muscle aches and a feeling of tiredness in the neck, back and limbs (DD Rhus-tox, Gelsemium)
• Sore throat with burning, itching and stabbing pains, dark red swollen throat (DD Belladonna, Phytolacca, Rhus-tox)
• Runny nose, watery (DD Alumina) to purulent, secretions causing irritation (DD Kalium)
• Sinus catarrh with frontal headache and pain in the upper jaw (DD Mezereum, Pulsatilla)
• Cough, mostly dry, in the evening or at night; cough with expectoration, sometimes to the point of vomiting; burning and pain in the chest, behind the breastbone, with every bout of coughing (DD Bryonia, Hepar sulfuris), occasional shortness of breath
• Colicky abdominal pain (DD Chamomilla, Cina, Cuprum)

I treated many patients, but the results were unsatisfactory; from many colleagues I heard that they experienced the same. I prescribed some of the remedies I have listed under "DD", either singly or alternately. The results were not satisfactory until I finally had the opportunity to experience the "golden case": in this child the fever did not respond to Spongia or Arsenicum; instead, on follow-up examination strange new symptoms appeared: a deviation of the tip of the tongue to one side. Immediately after the first dose of Causticum D30 (the mother said: "Still on the drive home in the car"), the fever fell and the general condition steadily improved.
I have confirmed the same sign in all subsequent cases and ALL patients reacted immediately, provided they showed the mentioned deviation of the tongue (mostly to the right side, but not exclusively). This sign must be checked at the first consultation and the patient asked to show the tongue.

Causticum

I recorded more than 10 cases on video and the remedy acted reliably every time; therefore I am of the opinion that Causticum is the main remedy for this viral epidemic, provided the symptoms described above are present. The remedy also always helped immediately and dramatically in patients from other towns (Oradea, Bistrita, Bucharest), even when previous conventional treatment had failed or other homeopathic remedies had produced no effect. Therefore I recommend Causticum as the principal remedy for the current influenza epidemic.
