Avoid medication - Homeopathy helps you sleep better.
You can't sleep. You're lying awake in bed again. All night long. And you don't even want to think about the person who suggested counting sheep.
And you have so much to do tomorrow!
It's bound to be a very stressful day.
The worst part (that thought just came to you in the early hours) is that stress and sleeplessness are very closely linked.
A long day can lead to stress that causes sleepless nights, and conversely, sleepless nights are the reason you don't function well the next day. That in turn means more stress — it's a vicious circle.
Together we'll manage to break that vicious circle.
The first step? Identifying your very specific symptoms, because sleep disorders and stress produce individual patterns of reaction in each person that respond to different homeopathic remedies.
If you suffer from a chronic sleep disorder, you can take one of the remedies listed below twice daily over a longer period (weeks or even months). If your
sleepless episodes are more sporadic and recur from time to time, you should only take one of the remedies described below at those times — in the evening at bedtime or when you realise it's going to be a restless night.
Aconitum napellus C200 or C30
Do you become panicky or anxious? Is your heart racing? Aconitum napellus (monkshood) is a remedy for panic reactions or shock of any kind. It helps with the feeling of restlessness and nervousness that keeps you awake through the night. It doesn't matter whether you're afraid of the storm raging outside your window or you simply cannot bear the dark.
Don't be so hard on yourself. You do know there isn't a monster under your bed, but sometimes it just feels that way.
Coffea cruda C200 or C30
Are your thoughts racing in your head? Maybe about something pleasant or wonderful? Perhaps you're planning an exciting trip and keep going over the packing list in your mind? Or you have a thousand things to do the next morning and your thoughts won't settle?
Are you oversensitive? Does every little ache in your body feel as if it's really terrible? Coffea cruda (coffee bean) can help.
Those who don't know how homeopathy works may rightly ask: “No! COFFEE will help my sleep problems?”
Yes, it can, because it has been highly diluted… 200 times in centesimal steps.
Gelsemium C30
But what if you simply can't sleep because you're suffering from anticipatory tension? Stage fright, exam nerves, stress?
Is the next deadline or the next presentation at the office worrying you? Is your child unable to sleep because of a class test or a school performance?
Gelsemium (yellow jasmine) will bring relief if you feel weak, go blank, tremble and suffer from headaches. It will give you a restful sleep. (And incidentally: you'll do great tomorrow. You just know it!)
Ignatia amara C30 or C200
There are times when grief, worries or arguments keep us awake. Each of us feels sorrow at times — it's part of life. But when sorrow has a firm grip on us, we may need a gentle nudge to overcome it. That nudge is provided by Ignatia (St Ignatius bean).
If you have sorrow and react with oversensitivity to pain or smells, Ignatia will help. This remedy is also indicated when symptoms improve briefly with distraction (for example, watching endless repeats of your favourite series).
Kalium phosphoricum C6 or C30
Are you overworked? Sleep disturbances can sometimes occur as a result of overexertion or overwork, for example when studying too hard. You would think falling asleep should be easier when you've done too much, right? The opposite is true: you're exhausted but lie awake for hours.
Kalium phosphoricum (a tissue salt called potassium sulphate) comes to the rescue. It helps to quieten the mind and be able to let go. A perfect remedy for overworked students who cannot switch off.
